Can you put on soothing music in your headphones? I find that sometimes helps me ground myself in the here and now. I struggle in noisy/loud environments. And quiet ones.

I'm the same. I spend about a year when even in warm months I was staying with blanket when I was in my new room, as it has a lot of windows and light, and it's right next to balcony connected to another room. It's silly but I felt too exposed. Also it's in front of a park so in the summer there would be people drinking right out front and I would hear them late at night. It was really stressful. I also used to close both doors of the room and have headphones on constantly for that same reason. It's muuuch better now, it will improve as you get better.
But I do still on occasion have days when I just want to be more closed, feel safer. But it's much more rare than before. Just hang on, gets better. Also, nothing wrong with a nice fluffy blanket wrapped around you. |
Thank you for your responses, I'm sorry mine is late.
I have a baby to take care of, so I'm unable to put in headphones or do anything that would interfere with my ability to hear and respond to her, especially if she's upstairs napping. I did wrap myself in a blanket and that helped a little bit. I am slightly calmer now, but still trembling and hyperaware. Thank you both. |
Ah, babies. Try one headphone in. That's what I do when overwhelmed at work or dealing with my girl. Or try mindfulness when washing your hands. Focus on the water and the sensation and discard the unhelpful noises. Honestly I've never tried it but I've had it suggested to me.

I really appreciate those suggestions. ^-^ I will try that if need be today.
I am seeing my therapist tomorrow, which means I'll get more bubbles, so I'll be able to blow bubbles next time as well. I just need to hold on until December. I don't know if I can with this level of panic. :( |
I get this when I hear loud or shocking noises.
It causes flashbacks and dissociation. It's a horrible feeling but you can do grounding things that will help with the distress. Do you have any grounding techniques? |
