Ending therapy tips

So I have been having therapy for a few months (12 sessions) and I was told yesterday that I have only two sessions left. I felt like my world collapsed I have grown so dependant on the session and advice given by my therapist. I never want to open up again. I feel hurt and abandoned. I knew it wouldn't go on forever but I thought until I was ready to stop..

I came home yesterday and took an OD cos of it which I know is very bPD type behaviour but I'm so distressed. Any advice?

Sadly therapists sometimes put a time frame on therapy so you are less likely to become so attached & also so they can see others, otherwise, therapy would be never ending. Its hard to cope with sometimes. Were you aware at the start of your therapy that you had 12 sessions?

I'm sorry you're finding it so tough. Do you feel able to talk to your therapist about how you feel? Perhaps in the next 2 sessions you can work towards coping without therapy & what strategies you can put in place. The end of therapy doesn't mean the end of your recovery, it doesn't mean you're well but it does mean that you probably have picked up a lot of skills you can use outside of therapy & you can work towards getting well on your own. Do you think you could make a list of all you've learnt during the last 10 sessions & put it into practice? Do you have any other form of support, say a CPN?

Taking an OD as you did is a typical BPD behavior, have you learnt any other forms of coping strategies during therapy so if you feel like that again you can hopefully avoid it? Did you do any DBT?

Finally, I'd urge you to seek some medical help for the OD as any type of OD is dangerous & although you might feel well, your insides might not.

I would definitely use your last two sessions to talk about hope you Will manage without therapy.
It's good also to ask what else is available in your area that you can access if you feel these 12 sessions weren't enough.

Have you ever read or found self help books a resource you could utilize?
