not sure what to do
I have been working at my job for two years and it has been toxic. Led me to my first hospitalization in 11 years. Things were getting bad again and I was very suicidal so I gave my notice. I have two weeks left and then I am moving. I will need to work but I am trying to decide whether to jump back into a new job doing the same type of work or try to do something easier for less pay for a while. I have just applied for a temporary job as a social worker at a six week summer program for children with autism. This would be perfect but if I don't get it I'm not sure what I should do.

Hello, I completely understand and relate to this. I quit my job (RN-charge nurse) about 6 months ago; it was back in December. Anyway because it was way too stressful for me I had to leave due to my mental and physical health issues. I too was hospitalized during this job for a week in a psych ward. In all honestly this is the part that really stinks because I liked the job more or less. Except it WAS very toxic for me. I am currently working a minimum wage job which has been a HUGE paycut from when I was working with my degree. And I don't think this is going to cut it for me for the long run so I am thinking that since I am healthier now I might ease back into nursing part time and also keep this minimum wage job (because it's fun) so I don't get burnt out on any one specific thing. Either way am supporting you 100% in the decision you make! Just try and weigh the pros and cons and choose what you feel is best for you. Best of luck! :-D  |
Thanks for the reply. It was really good to hear that I am not alone. I know it's not but it feels like a huge failure.

I'm starting to look forward to going home. There are currently two openings for jobs I am overqualified for but willing to perform. I just need a break. I will have to travel quite a ways for therapy but I am willing to do that too.
