Donating Blood

Hey does anyone know a list of the full rules on giving blood in the UK?
I am hoping to donate blood next month and want to make sure I am able.

That should tell you all you need to know :)

Thank you hun :) Good luck with tomorrow
I always wanted to donate blood but always been abit clueless about it and did not want to go on my own. Now my friend is trying to get people to donate blood and I jumped at the chance to go with him.
Also applied for information about donating bone marrow

I read that rule list once and there wasnt anything that stopped me giving blood. Though I've been kinda frightened of giving blood ever since they sent me a letter last you where the first line was in huge letters 'we want your blood' it scared me. So i wanted a reason to keep my blood. Though now my reason is I need it, and the blood bank are really vampires.

I have a donor card though so they can have my organs when I'm dead, tis better than nothing in my opinion, tis better than vampires having my blood.

it was that letter which convinced my friend to give blood lol!

Crumple... 05-06-2007 01:46 AM

Ooo donating bone marrow is painful apparently. But go you!
I'm a blood donor and an organ donor when I die, that'll be my good deeds for life :P

Ohhh good luck. Here in the US I'm old enough to donate blood, but I can't even handle a silly IV! I don't think I could handle giving blood.

You get cookies aftwards though, yes?

There's a choice of biscuits and juice at the place I go, it's well cool :P
Free food, waheeey.

I've just realised! I was seventeen the other day therefore I can donate. EXCEPT I CAN'T. I am so bitter at being diabetic right now, I am going to donate and keep quiet I think. I don't want my stupid sugary blood!

I think I'm going to have a hissy fit.

It doesnt hurt as much as I thought it would.

I hate giving blood because I have always gone to random countries and it takes yonks to get approval and people look at me like I am random or infected!

how hissy will they be over my blood? They said if you been outside the UK for more than 6 months, but I lived outside the UK from the age of 1-14 (me now being 19) 5 years in England should have long enough for them to not need to worry, but I did live outside the UK for a long time

random.swirls 05-06-2007 08:24 AM

You lived in the U.A.E. like me yep?

I havent had a problem and have also lived in varying asia countries.
The one time I did have a problem was when going to give blood on my return from yemen as it has malaria and so had a 6 month ban given to me!

Douglass 05-06-2007 08:30 AM

aye, The UAE and Qatar.
aslong as I got things go smoothly all will be good

random.swirls 05-06-2007 08:32 AM

yeah you wont have a problem unless qatar has some random blood problem that i am not aware off!

DevilzKisses 05-06-2007 09:41 AM

I tried to give blood, and freaked out when they put the needle in my arm.
And I got a letter saying they really need it and stuff, and I feel really bad, but yeah...I just actually can't handle it.
Maybe I should try again

Arohnr 05-06-2007 11:03 AM

Muahaha...I want blood..

Saerie 05-06-2007 11:06 AM

Eeek, makes me feel sick just thinking about it

GlitterGirl 05-06-2007 11:39 AM

I feel so bad. I usually donate but I've not done it this year at all cuz I've been too lazy to go down to the donar clinic.
I'm gonna get my ass in gear though and go this month. I always feel so great after donating, like knowing I've really helped.
Scotland is seriously short right now. We only have 3 days worth of blood in stock. Scary thought.
Ooh who said they lived in the UAE? I used to live there too. Small world.
