Medical form
Okay, so I've been offered a job as a apprentice HR assistant with my local college. I'm really happy about this and am really looking forward to starting.
My main concern is the medical form. I've had a lot of trouble with my mental health over the last year or so, but I don't have an official diagnose as most of my treatment was done privately. I put under 'things that I used to have' (or something) on the form as depression with how long on I was medication, as I feel it's not currently something that will affect my work. I also only wrote down the issues and information since I turned 18. The reason I'm asking is because they can't discriminate because of my mental health now because they have already offered me the job, but in the future if it becomes a problem and they find out I did not declare it that can become a problem. I really really don't want to mess this up, I just want to make sure I've filled in the form correctly. Also, any advice on giving notice with my current job? I know the mechanics of it but I'm really anxious about doing it. Sorry if this is all a mumble, it's been a long day. |
As long as you've mentioned it, it should be fine. Not declaring something means that you didn't mention it on the form at all, nobody can predict what one's mental health is going to do/be like at any one point in time so it would be unfair to expect you to declare everything! The only time I would advise declaring everything would be if you were working with children and/or vulnerable people.
I think they ask in "general" (by that I mean not the caring sector) jobs to make sure nobody takes the piss/messes them about by saying "oh I have such and such," if there is a past history of that then it can be easier working out whether that person is genuine or not. When my anxiety got worse at the beginning of these last few months, I declared it to my boss and because I'd mentioned briefly that I'd been on medication in the past, she was a bit more understanding about it than she perhaps could have been had she not been aware. |
Hey lovely,
As said above, as long as you've mentioned it somewhere, you will be covered should any problems arise in the future. When it comes to writing your resignation and handing it in, I would simply write when you plan to leave and a brief description as to why if you feel it would be appropriate. I have always thanks my employer for their support/opportunities etc. x x x |
Thank you all for the replies. I did read them all at the time and they did help! <3
I actually going to give my notice in tomorrow and I'm really anxious about it. They have bought a new manager in, he started Monday and I'm terrified about approaching him. I'm just absolutely terrified because of really silly reasons. Anyone have any advice about how to deal with the anxiety? |
What are the 'silly' reasons? Knowing them might help us give you ideas for managing the anxiety! I don't want to suggest ways to deal with certain fears if they turn out to not be what you're worried about but then me mentioning them would make you add it to your worry list!
Congratulations on the new job; I hope you really enjoy it :) |
Thank you Jenna! =)
I have issues with feeling like I'm letting people down/disappointing them/upsetting them/getting in the way etc. Luckily I talked to my supervisor and she was really supportive and helped me give it in to the new manger. I'm now just trying to rationalise my feelings of letting my colleagues down, it's just really difficult. |
Congratulations for the new job. I would really like to appreciate you for your honesty.
