A levels and uni
Im in year 11 and i really want to do a levels go to uni and study something "caring related" yes all a bit vague i know :blush: but i get home tutored at the moment because i have school phobia , i couldent handle the place and the people and the classroom if that makes sense Much as i want to do a levels and go to uni and do all the things i really want to do with my life , what if i cant handle the timetable and being at college with a level? im predicted a's , b's and c's at gcse.Its not that im thick i just cant handle the general enviroment of school. is college different? for people who have done it? gahh i know i could handle uni , i know thats different but college seems really similar to school to me :ermm: anyway i can skip a level just go straight to uni ? *yeah i know thats not happening and is totally impossible i can dream!* ive looked at studying a level long distance but it costs so much and i cant afford it *sighs* anyone got any ideas? maybe i should just do some basic easy college course thats only 1 day at college 4 in a placement and only 1 subject , get a nice dead end job ...... |
I have/had school phobia. And was tutored in a hospital school in the end.
So basically, I know where you're coming from. I really ****ed up my first year of sixth form, ended up dropping out of everywhere I went, but now I've overcome my phobia nad I'm doing ok. I think you should try adn get some therapy for your phobia, you can overcome it, but it's really hard and takes guts and determination. We're here for you though, and we believe in you. |

Before I was doing an NVQ, I did AS Levels. The classes (in general) are much smaller than they were at GCSE level.

i know im late to this but wanted to add that as your talking about doing something caring related you dont need a levels to go uni to study nursing, just gcses. for everything else you do need to get a levels or the equivalent.

I got to 6th form college, and I love it :)
It seems to be composed of a lot of people who found school hard for one reason or another - bullying, illness, ADD, dislike of teachers, dislike of people.. You only have to be in when you have a lesson, the rest of the time you can go home if you have time, or anywhere you like! Also, I'm not sure if this is something wider, but recently I've been having emotional problems and my tutor told me if I thought it would help I could come in once a week, collect the work, and do it at home until I felt able to rejoin the classes. The important point is not to give up. There are definitely different options. It might not be practical for you, but in America I think you can go straight to uni with English GCSEs, but be there for 4 years. It's not that you're stupid, like you said. It's not that you're unruly, or can't be bothered, and places you apply to will consider your own personal merit if they are worth it :) Let me know how it works out xx |
Thanks for your replys! . I think after the pm's / posts about nursing i may look into that i dont wanna give up on a level but if i can do nursing at uni without doing them it would make my life easier!

You can do something called an access course. I can't remember whether or not you need A Levels/NVQs for them though.
