Guinea pigs
I'm contemplating getting some guinea pigs and thought that before getting any (and all the stuff that they'll need), I'd scope out for existing owners. Basically does anyone have tips or advice that should be taken into account, recommendations for brands of home etc. I have a hamster so am fairly clued up on things like training and handling.
Thanks in advance! |
All I have is hay and sawdust NOT straw as can damage their eyes for bedding, and if little and not used to being handled use a baby's toothbrush at first to get them accustomed to touch then your hands. I know it sounds odd but check them for odd bulges etc as can seem not important but might be tumours. Brands well can't help you there as tended to go to local or one and only branches (not in a snobby way just lived in very small village :P)

Also best getting two at least as they don't do well on their own. Same gender if females preferably not sure about males :)

Thanks guys, that's really helpful! I'd not thought about dangers of straw so good to know. Nor the fact that they may well resemble hippos if overly trimmed!
Not sure when I'll end up getting them, as I've just moved house and it's thrown my hamster completely off balance so not sure he'd tolerate strange squeaking animals. |
