What an intolerant person!

Hello. Well, I did realize that I am an intolerant person. I often get upset if anyone doesn't think the way I do, and also criticize people likes or dislikes and I hurt their feelings.:nono:

How can I respect others opinions and say what I think without getting upset? Suggestions?

Thank you.

That's a good question. I found debates can be either about "what" is right or "who" is right. Its ok to debate over "what" is right. When it becomes "who" is right is when ego kicks in and its tempting to get defensive. One sport analogy I've heard is "play the ball and not the man". Over time I've learned not to make or take debates, arguments etc. personal. A lot of people WANT to upset you with opinins etc so its best to roll with things. If you get upset just watch it and don't add more to it. Then things die down. The world is an old place. Arguments come and go and people all end up in the dirt quiet and forgotten. Most things really aren't worth getting fluffed up about. That doesn't mean people should be quiet though. Lots of people suppress out of fear of being upset or upsetting. But if you dont add hostility there will be no guilt so its easier to speak up. Not that people will listen so you dont want to look for a specific outcome. A wide old bird once said to me "tell the truth and walk away". I've found that attitude works well. Its keeps suppresses stuff from building and yet doesn't provoke arguments for sake of arguing.
