Citalopram

Just got prescribed these pills today for anxiety. Anyone else had them before? Thoughts?

Thanks

Bitter_Angel 04-06-2007 08:05 PM

I have those. I have not been on them long, but I got a lot of side efects to start with. I would recomend staying with it through the side effects as they tend to wear off in about 10days.

Saerie 04-06-2007 08:07 PM

Ah okay. What specific side affects did you get? How long did it take for them to take affect?

Bitter_Angel 04-06-2007 08:13 PM

Errm I had a tremor (shaking hands) and water retention. Lasted about 9 days. But dont let that worry you, I often get extreme side effects off any medication.

Saerie 04-06-2007 08:14 PM

Ooh okay. Yeah the side affects list is huge.. I'll give it a go anyway. Thanks a lot :)

i havent heard of it...hope it works for you though. good luck

I've been on that. The common brand name is Celexa. I was switched off of it because I ended up in hospital and all suicidal and crap.

It wasn't very effective for me, I guess, but I know a lot of people who have really found it helpful. And I didn't find any physical side effects from it. Just be careful because citalopram is one of the SSRIs that comes up in the whole antidepressants/suicide case. If you feel shitty, tell the doctor because it's very likely to be the meds and not you.

HellsBells 04-06-2007 10:25 PM

They are the ones I am on and the side affects are still as bad

Kaye-Kuntradiction 04-06-2007 11:36 PM

This is one of my meds also, I found that initially they made me very tired and killed my appetite, but don't worry because the effects wear off after a week or two

Saerie 04-06-2007 11:36 PM

Feeling dizzy, shakey and sick after just one pill?
Is that normal? I'm not sure if that's the pill or just me being worried anyway :(

Manwathiel 04-06-2007 11:41 PM

i have personally never been on this drug, i hope it helps you though.

Thats how I felt when I first took them the first day they made me sick but each day I took them the nausea got better until it went. They still make my hands shake a bit sometimes but other than that they're ok for me

ETA - When I first got them they made my anxiety worse at first

Broken_butterfly 06-06-2007 12:16 AM

Hi,

I've been on Citalopram for depression. I found that it gave me an upset stomach the first couple of days and nausea for a week or so (it seems better to have food before you take it!) but it took effect pretty quickly. I started to feel better after about three weeks on it. You're probably more sensible than me and would never drink on medication, but I did find it made me get drunk REALLY quickly, so be careful!

Hope it works out for you, make sure you go back to your doctor regularly, especially if you have any bad side effects or it isn't working.

I agree with the person above, I was given Citalopram for depression and though I don't remember any side affects - I was a very cheap drunk!

However, as with most anti-depressants, it is recommened that you do not drink while on them, espeically while beginning, and if you're having severe side affects - tell your doctor (who should be monitoring the effects for the first few weeks anyway)

Hope it works for you.

I'm on citalopram and I have had no side effects but like others have said I'm a cheap drunk.

Keep them up hun, they arn't that bad and the effects happen quite quickly.

Jetforce 06-06-2007 12:18 PM

Yeah, ppl react different to the meds

But yeah, i had a few side effects from it when i was on it...i'll ended in hospital a few too many times i think from it...i dunno? But yeah, i really hope it works for ya

Take care

Saving Grace 06-06-2007 01:54 PM

I found they helped me muchly, and I found taking them before bed for a couple of weeks (instead of in the morning) meant side effects weren't an issue at all. I'm sure I've read that this causes sleep problems for some, but I had no problem at all. Hope they work for you, and like everyone else says, be sure to check in with your doc regularly, and especially if after a few weeks they're still not agreeing with you, or you feel worse.

Much Love
