Question about therapy

Has anyone ever felt like therapy is a waste of time? I just feel like it has been and I am feeling like it is, that my problems aren't big enough to be in therapy.
I am 23 and it's nearly been ten years of depression/self harm urges.

I am feeling confused.

I do not feel depressed/hurting enough to be in therapy.

I am scared. I have had cravings for the last three weeks and they have never been in so intense for a very very long time.

But at the same time I was looking forward to my appointment yesterday.

I am so very emotionally confused and craving right now.

Would you be happy feeling the way you do now for the rest of your life? If not, then yes, you are depressed/hurting enough to be in therapy.

I often find therapy about as much use as a boiled frog, and I think it's important to be able to acknowledge that and try to think about ways to make it a more helpful experience. What bits do you find unhelpful? What aspects have you found useful? What is it about it that you were looking forward to at your appointment the other day?

I recently had a helpful conversation with my therapist about what helps and what doesn't, and hopefully as a result of that we're going to have some more helpful sessions. Maybe you could start a conversation with your therapist about how you're having doubts about therapy and perhaps you can work together to make therapy more useful for you.

Hello!

I've just had to start out cognitive therapy and my CAMHS consultant diagnosed me with only "low moods", but close to depression. I'm trying to say that there are lots of different types of therapies, for all different levels of problems.

Sorry to hear you have heavy urges going on right now. I know a few techniques for helping ease the urges. Although, I think there is a thread somewhere on here about similar.

If you ever need anything, you can always PM me.
