Medication successes?

Last week my therapist discussed the possibility of going on antidepressants for a while. I somewhat hesitantly agreed that I would be willing to try, but I'm still uneasy about the idea.

I kind of wanted to find some positive stories about antidepressants, but I know if I just start googling, I'll probably find ten horror stories to every one success. So I thought I'd see if anyone here who has been on antidepressants and had them work out who wouldn't mind sharing.

Hello,
Prior to starting medication I was really hesitant but I gave it a go. It took a little while to find the right combination that worked for me but this is complicated by becoming diagnosed bipolar and being very sensitive to anti depressants.
I've known friends and family member who have had a 6 month or so treatment with antidepressants who have responded really well and the medication really helped them get through difficult times
I hope the medication helps you.

This is a really good idea I think and I'm glad you're recognizing the proliferation of negative posts can outweigh the positive, even if experiences occur in the same amount, people just tend to complain more than talk about positive experiences!

I've been on antidepressants for a while now and they've really improved my quality of life. The experience of going on them after extensive depression was like the world actually became clearer. My concentration dramatically improved which was the biggest thing for me as a student, and it was easier to motivate myself too.

I do recommend trying them but ensuring if you do that you are monitored by yourself and who prescribes it to ensure there is no adverse reactions also.

When they started to prescribe me medication they tried 3 antidepressants and I had unpleasant side effects. It took a while to find something that is working for me, it's not an antidepressant - but I don't have depression anyway.
Guess I just wanted to say that it can take a while to find something that suits you and if the first antidepressant you are taking has unpleasant side effects, don't give up and try maybe something else.

Thanks for the feedback/support. I appreciate the honesty too. I know sometimes people go through a few different medications before finding one that works for them, so I'll try to stick with it for a while even if the first one I get doesn't work.
