La musique française [french music]

So I'm in advanced second year french this year, & I absolutely love the language... So I was wondering if anyone knows any really good french music [i mostly like rock & ska, but I listen to a bit of everything]

french music! i love french music....though i really don't know the names of most of the artists, seeing as i get my cd's oh-so-legally burned for me by my french teacher. :)

here's the few i do know:
mickey 3D - he does this cool rap/rock/world influence stuff unlike almost anything else i've heard before. his lyrics are great too (and it makes an enjoyable project to translate them) really intelligent, socially conscious and thought provoking, though they range from that to intensely dark and angry and "what the hell is happening to our future" to melt your heart cute, in that uniquely french way.

mc solaar - french rap. need i say more? i'm not really into rap, but it's cool to listen to the sound of the language, and sometimes his lyrics are pretty cool too.

prototypes - exactly like le tigre. only in french, so it's cooler, right?

there are tons more, but these are the only ones i can think of off the top of my head.

Pleymo!! They rule.

As helpful as you loverly people are, I can't seem to find any of those artists on my favorite green citrus fruit based music service

Ahh, that's always the problem with finding good music. Here's a few links for Pleymo:

you should listen to "a la claire fontaine". it's a french song for children. but it's beautiful.
ah, and anorexia nervosa are a french black metal band. :)

Jonatan Cerrada - very poppy, but also very fit. He's belgian with spanish parents, so not all his songs are in french, but he represented France in the eurovision song contest a few years ago. My favorite track is Ruban Noir, very dramatic about the Madrid bombings. He has a myspace page, or search youtube for 'A Chaque Pas', 'Mon Paradis' or 'Rien Ne Me Changera'. If you like him, his albums are usually only a couple of quid from amazon (my flat-mate paid more for the P&P than the album, happens a lot with foreign CDs on there)

Lol, we did A la claire fontaine for a grade in class... I love the folk songs!
Now we're doing "Il est né, le divin enfant" [for christmas!]

I also really like "Il etait un petit navire" [spelled right?]

satine 28-10-2007 11:26 PM

healingraine 29-10-2007 01:14 AM

Haha, it's rather amusing... It's about a little ship, and they have been sailing for a while & they run out of food & they draw straws to decide who the will eat! I almost died of laughter when Madame translated it for us the first time...

Soko is the only obvious one, but does she actually sing in french? I cant remember.
Placebo have a few songs sung in french, I dont know if you're interested but Protégé Moi and Embrassé Moi are both in french.
If i think of any more I'll let you know xx
