Complicated Grief Disorder?

Hi,
I have a question.
Say if you lost a family member, who you were extremely close to, about two years ago and at the time you didn't grieve, not because you didn't want to, but because you were trying to be 'strong' and 'be there' for other family members, and you also had to work long hours - how would this affect you? Would the grief come out at a later stage? Would it be twice as worse than if you had grieved at the time of the loss? Is this known as complicated grief disorder or delayed grief at all?

Hey there

Sorry to hear you have lost someone - if it's you?

Everyone deals with grief differently, I've lost a few people in my life and I've never grieved the same.

It could be worse if it comes out later, but there is no rule saying it will or does. It is very likely that there would be some experience of grief at some point though. You haven't given a description of your/this persons experiences or symptoms, and even if you did only a professional can diagnose. But based purely on the fact that it occurred in a delayed manner doesn't qualify for the diagnosis from my understanding.

I don't know an awful lot about grief, but I don think it's important to talk about things that trouble us. Grief affects everyone differently, but that's okay.

How have you been holding up since it happened?

Have you been able to talk to someone about what is going on?
There are counseling services who specialize in grief and even general counselors could provide some support.

Like out of here said: grief is something very individual and there is no way of knowing for sure. Some people just never feel as strongly affected as others, and that doesn't mean they are less sad etc. Others get very emotional and take a long time to move on. It depends on a lot of factors really.

Have you been struggling with your loss more than usual recently?
