Physical health v dream career

Hello, i got accepted at college to do access to nursing. Im so exited.
The problem is i have just ben diagnosed with fibromyalgia, so im in pain most of the time, its made me a complete insomniac and Im constantly tired. Im waiting to go back to the rheumatologist to sort out pain management.
This is my dream career but i don't feel like i can physically do it, should i give up on it, from what i can gather i think people have fibromyalgia for ever.
To make thing worse everytime i see my sister who is a ward sister with a really good career. it makes me feel more of a failure than what i already do.
if anyone has got any advice, thanks lotty

I'm in a similar sort of situation, I don't have much to say other than go for it, never know if you'll be able to manage it until u try. :)

I do not see the harm in trying! You may be able to cope, you may not be able to cope. You will never know if you don't try. :-)

Go for it.
Good pain management for your condition can be achieved so there is no reason why it will stop you from pursuing your career goals.
All the best.

go for it. The pain with fibromyalgia varies from time to time and you might still have the strength to do certain things even if it hurts or you could specialise in an area of nursing that doesn't require a lot of physical stuff.

As has been said you don't know till you try, as far as I know pain management stuff can be fairly effective once they find what works for you. I've known of a few people with different chronic pain condisions managing in careers that others doubted they could do. If you don't try you may end up regretting it later anyway.

I've not got the same thing, but I have hyper mobility syndrome which makes me get tendonitus and other muscel issues a lot, but I am training as a joiner and currently working as a welder, on some days its hard and I often have to eear wrist braces which make some tasks impossible, but the way I saw it was if I didn't at least try I would be forever wondering "what if".

Maybe speak to your doctor/rheminologist (I can't spell...) And get their opinion too?

I would complete your access course first and by time that finishes review your situation. You can also view studying as a distraction from it
