Allergic reaction to tattoo?

I had a tattoo done last saturday and its been really itchy!
A rash type thing has appeared next to it but only on one side. I think there might be more to the rash on the actual tattoo, but hard to tell because of the ink! Its quite hot and throbs sometimes as well.

At first I thought it might be the bepanthen that I had a reaction to, because I don't normally use it. But it seems not.

This is my 6th tattoo and I've never had a reaction like this, 2 friends got tattoos at the same time and as far as I know, theirs are fine!

I'm not sure what to do! I put sudocreme on it, which sometimes calms it down. Taken piritize which doesn't appear to do much.

I don't get allergic reactions to anything except plasters!

If its hot and throbbing could it be infected?

Can you be allergic to the type of ink used... I know there are various types. I'm really not sure, any chance you can go back see the tattooist I think would be your best bet xxx

what colour ink is it? apparently (according to my tattooist) red ink is pretty common for allergic reactions.

It could be. :/ its on my back so it probably doesn't help that my clothes are constantly rubbing it.

I got it done while away last weekend. So can't really go back to that tattooist.
There are a couple of tattoo studios in my town, would they be helpful do you think?

Xx

I never knew that About red ink, I have it in 2 of my tattoos with no problem.i guess you learn something new everyday!

Yeah they should help you. Beeps then shouldn't give a reaction though as its used on babies a lot. Sudden may dry it out though that could cause problems.

Sorry Emma, missed your post! There is no red in it.

I'll try and get to the tattoo studio as soon as I can. Hopefully they can suggest something!

Mine's ok. Bit scabby. Where we went isn't great on hygene so it could be infected. I know claire's is quite scabby.

I'd get to a tattooist near you and see what they say x

Sounds infected rather than allergic reaction because although the inks are different it's not common to be allergic to them. If you can't get to your local tattoists quickly go and see a doc there is a chance (small but still a chance) that the infection gets into your blood which is dangerous. I don't want to worry you, it is most likely a small localised infection that a short course of antibiotics will get rid of.

thanks both :)

I'll try and get to my local tattooist today, I'll book a doctors appointment online for next week just in case I can't get there.

Good moves I hope it goes okay.
I want to see all your tattoos :3
Hope it heals!

It seems to be getting better. The sudocreme seems to be helping. The rash isn't so bad now and its less itchy!

I'll have to get someone to take a picture of it because I can't take a picture of my own back :p
