Do You Like James Bond?
 

I just watched Skyfall. Last Bond film I saw was with Pierce Brosnan I think. I thought the gov. spy genre was played out long ago. Guys fighting in suits and tuxedos seemed kind of comical. But I liked Skyfall ok. I think bond is something of a sideways comic book character who can just keep chugging along.

I was researching the Bond history and saw this pic of Connery. Those are odd pecs!

Big fan of espionage films, not just the Bond ones. You're right, Bond-esque espionage films featuring a debonair government spy might be a little old fashioned (although doesn't M say something about that in Skyfall?), but I'd say since around Goldeneye the series lost a lot of its 'suit and tie' identity.

Espionage as a genre is still going strong. The Bourne series is massively successful.

I like some of them, more a fan of the ones with Daniel Craig. And that pic is kinda disturbing Jack :blink:

Everyone I know likes them and can't understand why I don't. I seriously CAN'T STAND the films. My mum used to watch them all the time. When I moved out I told myself I'd never see another James Bond film ever again!

When i was younger im sure i enjoyed the ones in the 70s and early 80s . Not sure if i have well i know i havent seen skyfall but the one before that was that a daniel craig one? Some bother on a train? Yes mr bond its time to laser your thighs . Trying to decide whos my fav actor ? Connery i think because of the accent it makes me talk to my budgies in a scottish burgh.

Nah, i'm not really a fan of the Bond films, not even bothered to watch the newest ones.

My friend gave me the Skyfall DVD for my birthday. I sold it on eBay.

No, I don't get it. I was dragged to see one of the films in the late 90s and my only memory was that there was a violent scuffle a couple of seats back from us. I watched part of the one with Halle Berry in too, but I was watching her not the film.

I haven't seen Goldeneye yet and Skyfall is first Bond film I watched in many years but to seemed to me the suits battle things was in full force lol.

Speaking of Bond and suits - the stuntman that played Bond at the Olympics (man in blue flying suit) just crashed and died in a flying suit while flying in the Alps.

I'm surprised "NO" is winning! I love James Bond. As for the new films, I liked Skyfall, but Casino Royale was much better. Didn't like Quantum.

Also, Craig is a great Bond, he brought his own edge to the role. :)

One reason I was interested in Bond popularity is because its a film series that is popular and a cultural icon in US and UK over many years. You saw Bond in London Olympics and you could just as easily seen him in the Olympics if they had been in Los Angeles. But its also a dated theme like Beatles/Stones music

I'm gonna pick yes, but with the addition that I like the really classic ones (for their place in time/history) and the latest few, but the ones in the middle were clutching at straws somewhat.

It's really bad, but I couldn't watch Skyfall without being annoyed at some of the inconsistencies with the tube lines/platforms he got on. If you're gonna film in London, do it right - there's a million people who use the tube each day and notice this kinda stuff! :)

Well if a guy is having a fight on top of a speeding train - and then gets shot and falls 150 feet off a bridge - and then spills over a giant waterfall - and lives through it all - then I don't think rendering reality is a main goal lol. As I said I have come too see it all as a comic character like Batman, Spider man etc.

So you missed all of the Pierce Brosnan era, is that right? I forget if Goldeneye was his first one. The Pierce Brosnan Bond films were never my favorites. It's not that I didn't care for Brosnan's performance--he was actually quite good--but rather to say the Bond series during Brosnan's era degenerated into obsessively highlighting quirky gadgets. It wasn't about a suave spy charming his way through pussy galore and henchmen, and finally out-witting the bad guy. It was "Hey guys. Look, a car that turns invisible. Oh em gee isn't it fabulous??"

Eventually they wised up and realized it had gone far enough. Casino Royale was an attempt to get back to the spirit of the old Bond. And in that particular film I think they nailed it. If you haven't seen Casino Royale yet, I highly recommend it be your next Bond film.

No - I didn't watch the Brosnan films. I have Casino Royale and will watch that after "Quantum of Solace" or whatever its called. I saw a documentary about the Bond films and the original makers considered Casino the ultimate Bond story. They couldn't make a film using because of legal hassles. The descendent s however pushed hard to use original makers (Broccoli et al) ideas.
