bad anxiety, no apparent reason for it?

I feel ok, mentally at least but I have the worst (physical) anxiety I could imagine. I don't know what to do to settle it with not knowing whats causing it when I feel fine. can anyone else relate? or have any tips on dealing with it? its driving me round the bend. :plain:

Are you sure that your thyroid is ok? That can cause terrible anxiety for no apparent reason. If it isn't my CP tried to teach me self hypnosis.

Ask to get your thyroid antibodies checked. Also find out what your levels are. In the UK the threshold for diagnosis is a lot lower than the US. Probably due to the free medication you get as a result.

I have the same issue quite often, so if nothing else I can relate. I don't have much advice to offer, except to try some breathing exercises. I know it doesn't sound like much and can even feel a bit silly, but it does help me a little.

It is hard to feel anxious but not know why, if anything sometimes I find not knowing why can actually make me feel more anxious. Have you tried any relaxation techniques? There are some good ideas of different relaxation techniques here.

Also, if you're in the habit of drinking a lot of coffee or energy drinks, I'd advise you to try cutting back on the caffeine. Too much caffeine can cause symptoms very similar to anxiety.
