Combination meds for BPii
Hi i have bipolar ii as well as bpd traits, i was wondering what combinations work with lamotrigine, im only on 100mg and slowly titrating up due to the rash risk. But its become apparent i need something else as im cycling quite fast between hypomania and depression.
The only med im really not willing to try again is olanzapine due to the weight gain, im still losing the weight (healthily) that i put on from it 4 years ago!! And aripripazole isnt a choice either as it made me more agitated and restless that docs wont allow it. I know med combos work differently for everyone just looking for some ideas really for when my cpn phones tomorrow. Thanks |
hey, i'm also BP, i've been on seroquel/quetiapine for the last 7 years..it has been great for the highs...i was diagnosed with bpd, which i didn't agree with so i went to a private psych who diagnosed me with BP (which is what i thought i had all along).
recently been put on depakote too |
I have BP1/schizoaffective but the treatment is the same in the uk.
When I was on lamotrogine I found quietapine and othe APs worked well alongside side it. Sodium valporate is also good for rapid cycling as it stabilises mood. I just started on rispiridone and that has helped me a lot with cycling. |
I have BP 2 with BPD traits. My current med combo is sodium valproate, risperidone, trazodone and mirtazapine and it's working well. Finally.
I was taking lamotrigine but had to stop due to headaches. Olanzapine made me too sedated. |
I take lithium, lamictal and seroquel. I cannot take anti depressants - they make me high even with the lithium. If I become depressed they bump my seroquel up to about 800mg. Works pretty well in the safety of a hospital with nursing support (never been treated for depression as an outpatient). My doc told me she will not use valproate in women of child bearing age (I think she really means women of child bearing age with "risky" sexual behaviour in mania).

I've done lamotrigine + rispiridone and lamotrigine + ziprasidone. I liked both combinations. I don't know how typical this is, but I lost weight while taking the ziprasidone.
