Quick question about Sertraline

I've seen there are other threads asking for advice about side effects, but I'm particular interested in people who've had side effects after a long time/upped dose.

I had some side effects when I first started sera line (insomnia/nausea) but these settled down. However, recently had a dose increase 100mg - 150mg, and I've been getting HORRENDOUS migraines and nausea particularly when I'm a car passenger.

Has any one ever experienced anything like it? I'm trying to figure out if there's a link...

Thanks :)

Yeah, I experienced no real side affects when I started sertraline but when they doubled the dose it really effected me. I got headaches, dizzy spells and sleeping issues mainly. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for your reply and get well wishes :)

How long did it take to get over the second bought of symptoms?

I think it was about 2 weeks before I felt more normal but my sleep disturbances still remain. I think they always will for as long as I'm on it but you have to weigh the good against the bad and setraline keeps me more steady than all the others I've tried. Are you starting to feel any relief from your symptoms?

Hi there,

When I first started on 25mg I had insomnia which passed after a week, then when moved to 50mg I had a worsening of depression which only went away after about 2-3 weeks. However, when they tried to double my dose to 100mg I had a worsening of depression that didn't pass even after 4 weeks so I was brought back down. I'd give it a couple of weeks and see if it goes away or decreases before going back to whoever perscribed you, but if it's getting too much then do contact them and see what they suggest <3

I'm on 200mg and all side effects I've experienced have died down. I got migraines a lot when my dose was doubled from 50 to 100 but after a while they faded. I still occasionally get nausea and slight insomnia but I think all of the side effects subside as your body adjusts to the medication

I was on Sertraline 100mg for about a year before my Psychiatrist increased my dose to 150mg. I'm experiencing severe tiredness and fatigue and i'm wondering whether this could be the medication?

Maybe - messing with serotonin (which is what the the type of antidepressant Sertraline is does!) can disrupt your sleep.

I'm still having regular check ups with my CMHT and have been put on zopiclone for a week to try and get my body in a rhythm but still struggling a bit. Definitely improved though, just hoping it continues.

I'm keen to stay on Sertraline because I've seen a massive improvement, thanks for the encouragement guys - it sounds like there might light (and sleep!) at the end of the tunnel.

Also glad to hear so many people found it helped :)

I would talk to one of the doctors/someone because they might have advice about this. Hope you feel better soon.

Glad the CMHT are keeping an eye on things and that the sleep issues seems to have died down a bit. How is the nausea?

Also, I too know people who have had a great deal of success on sertraline :)
