Did you notice the latest announcement (the one about jpgs of guns?) before you saw this thread?

I did and I think the announcement function is really nifty, but I am genuinely curious as to how many people notice announcements and if it might be an idea to also post announcements in general chat?

I'm aware this is quite a boring thread. Humour my curiosity :P

To be honest, I only seen it by luck, I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.

Can I do a little hijack here? it's been really bugging me.

Was there a problem with pictures of guns to start with? I don't think i've seen pictures of guns on RYL...

I know of at least one jpg of a gun that was posted.

I did notice the announcement before this thread. In relation to what Mike said, I thought the announcement about guns was a bit out of the blue. I hadn't noticed a problem with people posting guns but, then again, I'm pretty unobservant.

Ah thank you, I thought I was missing something.

There were and have been some pictures of guns but we had a very lengthy discussion about what was appropriate on RYL. Especially since the pictures werent obtained illegally or anything like that so by the time the decision was made it was quite a while since the picture cropped up which is why it seems like it is out of the blue.

I dont like the announcement thing because I can never find them and it doesnt show up in peoples posts so I cant follow that to it.

I don't always notice them either tbh.

I hardly ever notice announcements, and didn't this time either. It's because I generally skip down to the threads since it's normally just the stickies.

Ooh! Thanks for clarifying that Liv :-) and yeah, the announcement aren't very obvious.

I knew about the announcement but it was a coincidence that I clicked it (cause my mouse didn't want to do what I wanted to do).
That was the first announcement that I read to be honest, cause usually I just don't see them.

I seem to always notice them.

I notice them when I notice them, don't know what proportion I do notice though.

I am thinking most of them because when I do see them I go how long has that been there and I've not seen it and then look at the date and its usually within a few days.

True that, I notice them before they're even posted.

Is there a way to make them more obvious? I know another forum I'm on has it flash up when you log in. Or use colour?

I always seem to notice them too.

But I noticed a few gun pictures a while ago and I did wonder what the RYL policy (is that right word?) was on guns.

I like this decision anyway to ban gun photos.

What about artwork that happens to have guns in them, or is it just actual pictures of them?
