Medication?
 

Hi,

I've been on 100mg Sertraline for about 7 months and my Psychiatrist increased it to 150mg. I'm on day two of taking the 150mg and feel ever so low. I know this can happen when you first start anti-depressants, although I was wondering if this could also occur when you increase a drug?

Sometimes increasing a drug can be like just starting it. Your body was probably used to the sertraline before and now its adjusting again. Hope you feel better soon and if you have any worries ring your psych.

If he felt it was nescessary to increase it; which I would assume is because of persistant low mood? Then its possible you'd feel very low still. It certainly wont take therapeutic effect at the increased dose for any least a couple of weeks, but usually more.

If you still feel very low [worse than 'normal'] in a few days time, I'd call your CPN/CMHT and keep them in the loop, ask them for some advice on how to manage the low mood until the medication has a chance to take effect.

My partner is starting on Sertraline and feels, if anything, worse since starting it, I don't think its the medication, but rather the fact she's very depressed right now, which, considrering all the issues you are facing right now, is quite likely the case with you.

The ED team have discharged me from their service as don't feel i'm well enough to engage in treatment, therefore not currently under the care of a Psychiatrist!

Hmm. Most side effects can occur when meds are increased, but I didn't think this was one of them (and if so, it's incredibly rare). Is there anyway you could contact your GP and ask?

How are you feeling now?
