broadband contract question/sorted :)

Yesterday, I signed up with EE, since there was no answer from Virgin and my address apparently not existing on their system.

Well, today I got a letter from Virgin [a to the new occupier letter] inviting me to join them, to my exact address. "Wtf?!"

I really wanted Virgin, as I wouldn't have to have a phone, I really don't need a phone for the most part, only very very rarely, as I have my mobile.

Anyway, my question is, is it too late to back out of EE? [I don't have a router or anything yet, just signed up yesterday and my order was going to go through]

Sorry for posting again, but I don't have much data allowance on a dongle to search around on the internet, and have had a cruddy day at work so am not up to phoning them this evening.

Thanks. :)

It seems there is a cooling off period for new contracts

"Broadband provider cooling off periods & termination fees

When you sign up for a new deal with a broadband provider, it costs the ISP time and money to set up your service. If you decide to leave the contract early, there are usually termination fees to help the broadband supplier recoup some of these expenses.

Each internet provider however is legally obliged to offer a cooling off period - a fixed term at the beginning of the contract where you can cancel without penalty. Cooling off periods, like termination fees, vary from provider to provider so it's important to know where you stand.

Simplifydigital has put together this handy guide to the main broadband providers' cooling off periods and termination fees, although you should always check your own contract as these details may change over time."

RING UP QUICK, NOW.

You may be able to back out if you don't have the equipment etc yet and the contract is still being processed.

Good luck!

I'd FIRST ring up Virgin and double triple check you can get services there. We kept getting Virgin leaflets and they couldn't provide us any services at all, even though we asked why we kept getting leaflets for their services. They pretty much said that they have no idea.

If they then decide that yes, you can get a service from them, call EE and cancel.

I replied to this. Bleh! *pokes dongle*

Anyway.

Virgin just had missed me off the database. Field rep coming round this evening just to officialise everything - it's all fine though, just has to be done.
EE cancelled after ages on hold!
Off to get my deposit refund from EE shop now!

But I still have to wait for an engineer to come and install and have internet.
Grr!
