make up
I know theres a few diff make up threads about but i thought i'd ask.
Its my birthday soon and i was thinking about getting some nice make up as in stuff i couldn't normally afford to buy but i dont know where to start, so has anyone any ideas on what makes and which bits might be worth an investment? |
MAC is good for investment pieces!Their lipsticks especially.x

I think that a good foundation is worth the investment, it's the base for everything else. I wear full coverage foundation because I like the very matte, even look but that might not be what you want.
Expensive lipstick tends to stay put a lot longer than cheaper ones. I spend on foundation, lipstick and concealer and then save on things like brow pencils, lip liners and mascara (there are some £10 mascaras that are as good as ones at twice that price, in my opinion). The brands I use most are Estee Lauder, Max Factor and No7. I am very tempted to start looking into MAC makeup as everyone raves about it but it is very expensive and I am poor, so I've tried to avoid the MAC counter! |
Urban decay eyeshadow is good and there are plenty of funky colours to choose from. I LOVE my eye make up.
|
Urban Decay and MAC are my favourite high end make-up. Everything is wonderfully pigmented and lasts of ages! Urban Decay do palettes that are fab so you get more eyeshadow for your money.

Benefit 'porefection' is an amazing primer - as is their 'Bad gal' eyeliner
|
Urban Decay is definatly the place to go for eye shadow. They do this eye potion as well that you put on before the eye shadow...turns it into like a matte effect so it stick around. I've slept in the stuff after a long night and my eye shadow has still been perfect the next day.
I use rimmel foundation as I am too poor for Mac. I find it good for my skin and stuff. I have to be careful because my eczma flairs up if it doesn't like the make up i have on. |
I treated myself to some NARS make up a while back, it's really good.
|
hmmm MAC does sound good but its a case of whether to get it online as i doubt anyone near us stocks is mind you same with UD hmm thanks for suggestions so far, keep em coming!

Debenhams have a MAC and Urban Decay concession.
If you get the first Naked Palette by Urban Decay you get a free eye primer potion and brush. If you get the second Naked Palette then you get a free lipgloss and brush. £36 each. |

You could try House of Fraser too.

Well I wear eyeliner every day (I'm kind of a goth/punk person), so I buy pretty good Revlon eyeliner. Usually I save on lipgloss and foundation (for when I can be bothered wearing it). If you're into lipstick that's another one to go high quality on though. It's all about what you value most. For me it's my eyeliner, so I don't mind cheap lipgloss (the only other makeup I wear regularly). But if you care more about foundation or eyeshadow or lipstick, invest in that and buy other stuff cheap. :)
