What's your favorite quote?
I only ask because I'm getting a tattoo on Friday, and I'm in need of some quote ideas. I was really hoping to get something about hope, or even surviving. The tattoo is for my brother who was diagnosed with cancer on Dec. 21, 2010, so it's really important to me. Any ideas?:)

I personally don't think getting a random quote from strangers is the way to go, it's so impersonal especially considering why you're getting one.
|
I'm not getting a random quote, I have a few that I am considering; and this session is only going to be the ribbon and wings. I refuse to get a quote until I'm settled on one that I like and feel completely comfortable with.

The Only This You Have To Fear Is Fear Itself And ****ing Spiders..

My favourite quote is
We are all born in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars - Oscar Wilde |
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
|
There is a quote from a Rush song that I wanted to get tattooed that goes
"all the world's indeed a stage and we are merely players, performers and portrayers." then, I was gonna put Rango's face underneath (: |

I will try to think of a quote and get back to you :) What are the ones that you're considering? |
I have a few quotes that I love:
"Just as the Rich Tea biscuit lives in harmony with the luxury Chocolate Finger, so should we all live in harmony together in the great assorted biscuit tin that we call life" - Edward Monkton All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost, The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. - J. R. R. Tolkein. I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy's a necessary ingredient for living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of the telescope. That's what I do, it enables you to laugh at life's realities. - Dr Seuss "There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be diminished by a nice cup of tea." - Bernard-Paul Heroux Sometimes people put walls up, not to keep people out but to see who cares enough to break them down. "You have enemies? Good. That means that you stood up for something at some point in your life." - Winston Churchill “Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.” - Lance Armstrong And 'feel the fear and do it anyway'. I know that's a lot of quotes but I love them all! I hope that you get a tattoo that means something to you, rather than random suggestions from us! |
its from an obscure song that i think has a lot of good lyrics called It Will Take Courage My Love, by the Paperbacks "and so i take courage, my love, from you" its this whole song about someone who is struggling and all the things that take courage to get through, and then at the end it turns round and explains why the person themselves is courageous, even in the midst of their struggle and acceptance of their weakness at times, and inspire others (the quote is the final line)
|
My favourite quotes are the ones in my signature.
But considering the reason behind the tattoo I took the liberty of looking some others that I like. "While there is life, there's hope" - John Gay "Count your nights by stars, not shadows; count your life with smiles, not tears" - Italian Proverb "For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream." - Vincent Van Gogh. "Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose" - Tennessee Williams. "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." - Unknown. |
Doesn't fit your tattoo idea, and they're definitely not typically inspirational, but you did ask for favourite quotes:
"Imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, “This is an interesting world I find myself in, an interesting hole I find myself in, fits me rather neatly, doesn’t it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!” This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it’s still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything’s going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this may be something we need to be on the watch out for." Also by Douglas Adams, "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" “Ford!" he said, "there's an infinite number of monkeys outside who want to talk to us about this script for Hamlet they've worked out.” Then, some Oscar Wilde “Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.” “Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.” |
"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting." -e.e. cummings

Not entirely relevant but:
So, I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.” ― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower |
The quote in my signature, it's from a book called Looking for Alaska by John Green. He's my favourite author and LfA is easily my favourite book.
|
'When your days are darker, put your foot down harder, drive on,drive on.'
|
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost, 'The Road Not Taken' |
Whatever quote you get, just make sure it's grammatically correct. I've seen far too many fail tattoos!
