Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" Question (+ Snowman/Snowdog)
 

I was wondering if any film versions of "A Christmas Carol" play on television in UK. I wondered mostly what version would be considered a favorite. I mainly watch 2 versions in US.

I watch the version from 1951 with Alistair Sim and released as "Scrooge" in UK

I also watch the US version from 1938 with Reginald Owen.

These are the two usually on television with an occasional viewing of a George C Scott (Patton) version from 1984

One 2009 Disney version with Jim Carrey is darker but the ghosts are considered most accurate compared to Disney version.


Also wondering which people liked better "The Snowman" (1982) or "The Snowman and the Snowdog"?

The 2009 version with Jim Carrey was on yesterday I believe, I personally quite like that version.

The Muppets Christmas Carol is my favourite, and also fairly true. However, in the UK you'll find loads and loads of different versions playing across the TV channels.

I like The Snowman, and every year see an an orchestra play the music with the film playing in the background. Really starts to put me in a more Christmassy mood. I didn't watch The Snowman and the Snowdog, but that's mainly because I don't think there was a need to make it.

I read there was some resistance to Snowman/dog but I read a Facebook friend who said they cried watching it but I didn't know if that's because it was good or bad lol. I assume they liked it

I've never seen A Christmas Carol in any version except a mickey take by Black Adder so can't judge.

As for the Snowdog I thought it was very well done and was pleasantly surprised, although Snowman will always be better ;-p

I like A Christmas Carol and tend to watch the muppets version but not seen many other versions. I liked one human one I watched but don't know which version it was. Memory fail!

I want to check out the Jim Carrey one though. :)

I liked themusic in the snowman better, but thats about it.

We had an old video of a cartoon version of a christmas carol

There are about five different versions of A Christmas Carol on over Christmas. It's a bit ridiculous.

Asking about Snowman/Snowdog is difficult; to many, including me, the Snowman is a cultural institution and part of Christmas (much as Dinner for One is a German classic) - so the prospect of a new version is almost blasphemy. I think people enjoyed it, but it's not the same as the one that's been on our screens every single year for the last 19 or so years (ie most of our childhoods)!

There where 5 adapatations on tv alone on christmas day in the UK.

Glad to see that. I've always though JK Rowling was quite deliberately mimicking Dickens. Glad to know there is still a place for the original
