Housing problems

Basically since cmht decided it was no longer appropriate to see me (they are not there for those who only are borderline - they are only allowed to see those who are actually ill) and anyway giving borderlines apppintments to talk things through only makes them worse. There has been a lot of 'professional research' into this apparently and it proves talking about stuff makes bpd worse.

My problem is I have been having abusive notes from others who live in my building because I scream and yell a lot; during the day and during the night when I have night terrors; it's a combination of reacting to voices and monsters and flashbacks during the day. This has got much worse since cmht withdrew their support. I really don't know what to do. I rang my landlord who said I should telephone cmht as they have had many complaints about me, but I'm not allowed to do that except if I am at severe risk (and even then it's the usual chill, have a cup of tea stuff). She then said A&E and see them that way (not going to happen - it's the same team; all have been told not to see me). She has said if it continues they will phone the police and have me evicted.

I did until two days ago have a housing worker but she has been forced to stop helping me as it was due to cmht that she did so. The police, I don't want to go there.

I don't know what to do. It's isn't like I can control it. It even happens when I am out, though less then because I 'hold it in'; but then it happens all the time at home. More I am out the more it happens out - so staying out won't help either.

Please, does any one have any advice?

I can only post in my library; but I can read replies at home. So forgive any lack of replies.

It sounds like you really really need support. Something like supported housing could really help, but you'd need CMHT approval. I don't know what to suggest, except Mind's legal advice line/email.

Becca 15-11-2012 02:57 PM

I did try that, thanks. The problem is they are saying I don't clinically need to be seen anymore and just need 'friends' so I don't qualify. CMHT don't believe it can effect people like it does. It's awful.

bella_cullen 15-11-2012 07:46 PM

This is ridiculous, I *hate* the way people with BPD are treated. What's the point of diagnosing us with something that people just ridicule and say doesn't exist?! Anyway, rant over!!

I really don't know what to suggest, perhaps talking to your doctor? Or maybe even calling Social Services for an assessment or support? Or maybe an advocate service that would be able to support you?

[Awakening] 15-11-2012 10:53 PM

Becca, have you tried phoning Shelter? Their website is this... http://england.shelter.org.uk/ ... I have phoned them in the past and they were very helpful... You are technically considered 'homeless' if you are at risk of becoming homeless within the next month - or something similar. They will be able to look into the legality of eviction due to mental health illness etc..

Have you looked at what support groups you have in your area? If you need help with this feel free to PM. Mind have lots of support groups around.

Definitely talk to your GP, they should be your first port of call now you're no longer under the CMHT. They should refer you to services that can help.

Also (like Bella said) you can try social services, for an assessment for support

Let us know how you get on x

Becca 16-11-2012 04:49 PM

I did try Shelter and saw my GP today.

But it is awfully complicated. Technically as I have a care co-ordinator I am a patient of CMHT. However, CMHT will not see me or speak to me; or to my GP about me.

Social Services refer me to CMHT as I have a care co-ordinator there.

It's a dreadful mess; I'm just hiding in my duvet and :crying: a lot.

[Awakening] 16-11-2012 09:48 PM

So CMHT haven't discharged you? If they aren't seeing you then they need to discharge you. This is more ridiculous than words can say, and I must say it's made me shake a little - in anger! They are stopping you from receiving any other support and that is disgusting. Unless they have an extremely good excuse, this is wrong on all levels. *end rant*

Can you contact you local PALS service - http://www.pals.nhs.uk/ They should be able to help you rectify this issue, and hopefully they will escalate it (or tell you how to) because this can't be right. PALS can be an advocate on your behalf and help you with formal complaints etc.

You poor thing Becca, they really haven't treated you properly at all!
A website http://www.nsun.org.uk/ has details of some mental health support services in different areas, it might be worth seeing if there is anything in your area... also have you tried looking on the MIND website for local support groups?

earthbound_misfit 18-11-2012 07:39 PM

You don't deserve to be treated like this, although it's all too common. It makes me so angry on your behalf!
I was stuck in a very similar situation before. The main helpful thing was a local homeless charity (sort of grassroots thing rather than big charities like shelter that campaign a lot but aren't necessarily that useful 'on the ground'). They argued with the council to let me into a hostel when I was homeless, and the council, Shelter, and MH people had pretty much turned their backs on me. Unfortunately I was only allowed to stay pending investigations into my MH state, but this local charity were willing to help appeal the decision etc.
Also this was back when they were allowed to ignore people with a BPD diagnosis. They aren't supposed to do that anymore, which may mean you can push for services with the help of charities (local, or national such as MIND), PALS, and perhaps a letter to the head of MH services asking how they intend to fulfill the NICE guidelines regarding treatment of people with BPD. You could even write to your MP - MH treatment has been in the news recently and has been pushed onto the political agenda somewhat.
Also, there is a website called "patient opinion" where you can write your experiences, usually someone from your NHS trust will get back to you. This may be rubbish, generic replies, or may be quite useful (I found it useful and got to speak on the phone to head of services.)
The thing to focus on is what treatment you need to get better in the longer term, as well as obviously the support you need now.
NICE guidelines can be found here: http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf...EGuideline.pdf

I might be able to help with writing letters if you know who you want to write to first!

earthbound_misfit speaks good advice that I may well steal in the future :tongue2:

**pointless reply**

They think they have good reason. I told the truth having been told there was nothing I could tell that would mean I lost my appointments and support obviously a lie to trick me so they could discharge; won't make that mistake again!

My GP went through the letter they sent her and said they have no right and are ignoring her requests for support. I needed dressings for SH and flipped when she tried to examine me and she got visably upset at that point. We don't have PALs here; the equivilent has a huge waiting list.

It's me that's at fault.

And my punishment is to be abused by my neighbours and made fun of.

Becca 19-11-2012 04:42 PM

earthbound_misfit, thanks. I have contacted an organisation that was allowed to help when I was a patient so am just waiting now. There isn't PALs here.

I think their problem is my refusal to do DBT, which I have gone through a million times with them and via complaints process only to be told that is not a problem; but now they have decided it is.

The problem is they made all social services services go through them (they were separate before) to make things 'tidy' so they refuse to see me those services go as well.

[Awakening] 19-11-2012 10:16 PM

I would be happy to help you write to you're local mht who are in charge of the Cmht. This is certainly not your fault! Do you mind me asking what you said that made then withdraw support, it doesn't sound right at all and sounds more like they're trying to 'cop out' which is unacceptable. I really feel you need to complain about this, the fact that your gp also is shocked by their actions supports the fact that it's not right. again, I'd be happy to help you write a letter of complaint to the mht to draw their attention to their poor service, I'd also recommend writing to your MP, ass they need to be aware of just hour awful the Cmht are treating you.

This really is not right, please believe us, you have done nothing to deserve this lack of treatment and support! X

I won't put it here. I will PM you.

Animad 21-11-2012 09:18 PM

Just to let you know every NHS trust (whether mental health, hospital or Primary Care (GPs)) has PALS though some are under a different name. You can contact them via ringing them, going and seeing them in person or by writing to/ emailing them. They are basically there to see who you need to contact/ find you the right support/ ask to have to reassessed/ similar. They're there to support patients and don't have a long waiting list; I got in touch with 1 and I think I got an email the next day.

It's worth looking on their website though, like I say, it may be under a different name though the VAST majority of the time it is called PALS (Patient Advice and Liason Service) but I know of one with a different name but they do mention this on their website that they are the same as PALS.

Becca 24-11-2012 02:15 PM

In Wales it isn't called PALs it's called something else and there is only one person for the hospitals that cover my health board. The waiting list is months to see them.

I've been informed by CMHT because I have complained that is also a reason for them suspending my care.

:crying:

Becca 26-11-2012 06:12 PM

Today my housing worker confirmed no more help from January.

My ESA and DLA stop in February and I can't manage the forms myself and we have no organisations here to help.

I must think of the other people waiting and be fair. But it hurts. A lot.

:crying:

[Awakening] 26-11-2012 06:42 PM

Can you email your local MP? Or even head in to their offices to see them? You are worthy of their time, you need support as much as the next person x

earthbound_misfit 27-11-2012 03:58 AM

Why does your ESA stop in february? Is this when you're going to be reassessed? Might be able to help with forms...

Becca 28-11-2012 05:38 PM

I had a meeting yesterday to discuss everything. Took 6 hours. Very confusing and upsetting. They arranged for me to speak to cmht who just went on and on and on about how brave I was going to the meeting and trying and everything will be great. In fact he made things worse. The meeting was all about how in an ideal world x or y would happen. X or Y might change.

My ESA was only until February 2013. I must reapply then. But as I don't have a telephone; or any consultants anymore and even my GP is annoyed with me I'm expecting to lose it.

Becca 03-12-2012 04:57 PM

Update

Saw worker who has spoken to my landlord and the people who live in the building. I am being extremely distruptive and upsetting these people. Everyone is really concerned; except cmht. Worker said she and landlord would contact cmht but I don't see the point really. They don't want to know have been very clear on that. I said she could though.
