Anyone watch the new series? If so, what did you think of the new series? What about the appearance of Jenna Louise Coleman, who is due to appear in the next series as the new companion?

I quite enjoyed it but I wasn't blown away by it..

But it was good!

I thought it was ok,could've been bit more mindblowing what with it being the first episode.

I think they had a really good concept, and a real way to make the Daleks scary again, but never managed to pull it off. Instead the Daleks saying "Save us" made them out to be rather pathetic in a way. They could have explored the whole "hatred is beauty" idea as well, that was interesting. And now the Daleks have no idea of the Doctor? Hmmm.

Didn't like Clara Oswin (Coleman), she was a bit too much like River (overly smart, smug, flirty, etc) for my liking, and if she does come back as the companion (as expected), then the only way I can think of doing it is to go back and cross time streams. Although then she should have recognised the Doctor?

And where did Skarro come from?! That, along with Gallifrey, is meant to be time-locked, I thought?

It is,meant to be timelocked i mean. There have been lots of mistakes the past couple series but this is the biggest!

Exactly! The Dalek numbers seem to fluctuate according to whatever fits the storyline, and the Cybermen appeared again out of nowhere a few series ago as well, didn't they?

A series like Doctor Who with all it's different timelines and all its different writers will be a challenge to write, but I think canon and general consistency should be easy enough.

I really liked that they've introduced the new companion so early on, before the current companion has even left, it's a fresh approach to the whole thing, and it gives the audience time to digest the new character before she's forced on us every week.

This, unfortunately, is down to Steven Moffat having a completely one dimensional view of women. His female characters are always somewhat similar, he can quite often come across as sexist, it's his biggest flaw I think.

I agree. That part when Rory accidently set all the daleks off was when I thought it was going to get really interesting, but then it just....didn't. The twist was pretty good, however I still don't understand why Oswin sounded like a person to the doctor and co up until he was in the room with her(/it?) but I might just be missing a detail and I realise I'm picking on silly things but come on, I'm a Whovian. I was also a bit annoyed by the daleks "forgetting" the doctor. That's a pretty bold step to write in, I don't really see the point either unless something properly comes of it later on. Also yeah, pretty surprising to see Skaro...

The only exception that comes to mind is Molly from Sherlock, and well she's hardly a strong character in my opinion...

Moffat can write some really good episodes, but I honestly don't think he has it in him to be a head writer for such a show. Or perhaps he's just been putting all his efforts into Sherlock? RTD was a pretty poor writer, but I don't think his series were a few 'key' episodes surrounded by pointless filler, which has been the case with Moffat's series.

As much as I disliked Catherine Tate (mainly because of the silly voices, tbf), Donna was a good companion because she was different. She wasn't a fawning fangirl who didn't seem phased by anything.

Yeah, I thought that too about the difference in voice. And managing to find the Doctor and beam him up was a bit contrived. If they could do that all along, why not kill him before now?

This was an asylum, a place where the dodgy Daleks are sent. It was more like the planet of sleeping, broken boxes. Even the part when the Doctor was cornered just never had any tension or fear in it :(

So I thought "Dinosaurs on a spaceship" was a lot better than "Aslyum of the daleks" was. Lots of good actors in one episode.

I loves Saturdays episode, I thought it was really good. I do love Egypt and Dinosaurs though so great combinations!

It was nice to see Amy do something by herself, rather than fawning over the Doctor and being a bit of a bimbo. There was a bit too much innuendo for me though.

Otherwise it was an okay episode, obviously just a filler.

I really like doctor who though sometimes think it is going over the top.

Random(ish), but next week's episode looks goooood from the trailer!

You know what's really doing me in?

How in the "town called Mercy" episode and "Dinosaurs on a spaceship" episode, Amy "complains" about going home. Or says something along the lines of wanting to go home for a bit. (even though I'm sure she complained about not seeing him for months in one of the episodes this series, and said about normal life being dull or something when talking about not being able to hold a job down). She can travel across space and time, go and see any historic event, go and visit anywhere in the world, have crazy adventures, but no, she just wants to go home.

I thought the sincerity in this episode seemed a bit forced but overall it was quite good.

Not a fan of Amy in the slightest but I think she complains that The Doctor never visiting her and Rory, rather than never taking them on adventures.
Which looks to be a main theme in next weeks episode.

I didn't really feel like there was any need for Amy and Rory to be in that episode at all, Rory especially. Amy had one important line ("this is what happens when you travel alone for too long") but other than that was all a bit forced. It is sort of interesting that Amy has become the Doctor's moral compass, and what will happen when the Ponds finally bugger off for good.
