Unable to process or handle feelings

Pretty much as the title says.

I've been finding for some time that I simply can't process or handle feelings at all.

Things that shouldnt upset me do and things that wouldnt usually bug me make me fly off the handle.

It seems as a side effect of this my brain is working overtime causing me to loose sleep.

I just dont know what i should be feeling or doing anymore. Ranting to friends just isnt cutting the mark as it used to.

Im starting to think that maybe i am at that point where i really do need serious help, maybe even so serious that i need to go away for a while.

I wouldnt want to find out that i am as crazy as i think i am, but honestly it wouldnt come as a shock.

I am like this at the moment, but I have opened a can of traumatic worms in therapy so I think that's where my problem regulating my emotions is coming from. If you have underlying strong feelings, I think it's fairly normal for them to spill out and get channelled through unrelated incidents that trigger similar emotions. If that makes sense? So in my case as an example, something like scratching one of my boyfriend's vinyls makes me feel a clumsy idiot, which opens the floodgates for a bunch of other negative feelings about myself.

It is probably worth seeing a doctor or talking about it to someone who might be able to refer you to mental health services.

I can relate too, I find it difficult to regulate my emotions as well. It can be frustrating and distressing to not know how to properly deal with your emotions in a safe way. There is hope out there though, skills that you can learn to help regulate your emotions better. Have you got a therapist? As they can help you learn new skills to help manage your emotions better. Also have you ever tried mindfulness? As that can help too. A great link here explains what mindfulness is and how to practice it. Hope that helps. Take care

Understanding that you need help from others - from us here, from a professional - is one way of taking a first step to managing difficult feelings better. So, there is an awareness of the need for help with managing feelings, and that counts for a lot. :)
All kinds of things can cause the difficulties that you're having - from stress, to not eating right, to more severe mental illness, and a bunch of things inbetween.

Thing is I have tried getting help before, and it turned out to be a useless effort. The CMHT turned me down as I'm not a serious enough case, and I'm not sure where to go from there. Like my choices are either put up with not having their help, or go do stupid stuff to get their attention and force them to help me.

Unfortunately not, I used to see a school counsellor when I was in secondary school, but as I left school 4 years ago, that option isn't there for me any more.

Honestly I think I just need to be locked away for a while, somewhere I cant **** everything up, because all in all, that's all I am good for.

crazykat 07-08-2012 09:39 AM

I know it feels like all you can do is **** things up, but that's not what your good at. The fact that you reached out for support here shows that you want to get through this and the strength you have within you. It's frustating when you have tried to get help in the past but no one has listened. I really encourage you to keep trying to get help though because you do deserve it. Take care

But all I do is **** everything up, like today, I was tired and cranky and said something without even thinking, and now someone hates me because I said something I didn't even mean.

I don't even know what I want any more. I guess I just want to feel safe, because right now all I can think of is what if I do someone stupid, what will happen to me, what will happen to people around me etc

Nothing has any meaning any more, my life now revolves around cutting and feeling like I am loosing my mind.

Stellata 09-08-2012 08:31 AM

Exposing yourself to kindness and letting that in and allowing your negative beliefs about yourself to be challenged, that cannot be done whilst locked away from the world.
I understand how when you're depressed, it feels like everything you do is bad. But that doesn't mean it's the truth.
For example, I get hugely cranky A LOT, but I do know, and am gathering evidence for, that I am so much more than my crankiness. Same for you, and everyone.

SilentBoy 12-08-2012 10:52 PM

I really don't deserve help, its not as if I do myself any favours.

I'm just a natural at being a **** up

crazykat 13-08-2012 06:56 AM

What makes you feel like you don't deserve help? No matter what anyone has done we all deserve help.

emmasmith 17-08-2012 03:12 AM

sorry i didn't see this before . i can relate so much, it is hard when cutting is the main occupation of your thoughts. is there somewhere you could go other than CHMT? they might be more help?
try not to do something crazy, it's hard when it seems like it's the only way to get the help you need but trust me- it's not worth it in the end...
have you tried talking to the person you accidentally offended? i often say stuff i regret because i've just said it in the moment and it's not even necessarily true, i find if you just try to explain that you didn't mean it it can repair a lot of the damage. hope you're surviving ok xxx

SilentBoy 23-08-2012 10:07 PM

Hey, sorry its taken me so long to reply.

Honestly CMHT was my last resort, now i have nothing but myself to talk to.

I'm actually doing a lot better then i was when i first started this thread.

Not sure what it is, i guess somethings just clicked, like none of this **** actually matters any more

emmasmith 24-08-2012 02:45 AM

glad your doing better :) always here if you need to vent at someone x
