Sectionning & suicide plans

Is it possible to get sectionned when you haven't admitted to a plan you have but it's suspected that you are lying but you haven't acted on anything yet? Also it is possible to get put straight on section 3 without being put on section 2 first, if you already have a diagnosis?

I think yes and yes.

If they suspect your a risk to yourself then they can section you.

And yep section 2's is typically for assesment and if you have been assessed then a section 3 would be more typical as that is for treatment.

If they want to, yes and yes.

Although mental health professionals are supposed to use the least invasive actions/section order needed, they will and can use a 3 for a diagnosed condition they are intending to treat or keep you safe from the effects of.

I suggest you tell the crisis team you need support even if you are not willing to divulge anything else and set up a home treatment plan/contract of things you will agree to do before resorting to self harm and then see how it goes from there.

Yes and yes however it is very unlikely.

More so with the section 2/3 thing. MH teams will almost almost alway do a section 2 before a 3.

Why are you worried? Has someone said something?

Hmmm not sure, in my experience i've told mental health professionals my exact day and plan on more than one occasion to be told "I hope you don't but ultimitely it is your choice" with no follow up.

yes and yes.

i have been put straight on a 3 just from a drawing i did that they found.

As the others have said, yes to both.

Since my team know me now, they won't put me on a section 2 before a 3. They just put me on s3 straight away because they don't feel they need to assess me etc. xx

^This. It is often considered 'bad practice' to place somebody on a section two rather than a section three if the history is known and a treatment plan is in the pipeline etc.

Yes to the sectioning question. I was on a section 2 during my first admission and during my second admission I was put straight onto a section 3 because they already knew me/had assessed me previously. A section 2 is like an assessment period. Like if they think you still need treatment after a section 2 they will put you onto a 3 when the 2 is up.

Thanks for the replies to this, I was just wondering x

The first time I was sectioned it was on a 3.

x-Silvermist-x 03-08-2012 12:05 PM

They don't bother putting me on a section 2 it is straight on a 3.

Aubergine 07-08-2012 02:25 AM

I've been sectioned three times and have initially been put on a 2 each of those times, even though they knew me and I already had a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. Maybe it varies from area to area? I'm not sure.
