If you feel you need it, go. If not then avoid hospital at all costs. Only go there if it truly is the last option xx

Hi horselover,
Where abouts are you in the world?

In the UK, If they think being IP will help you in your current situation they will try to get you to go in voluntarily instead of 'detain' or 'section' you. If you have the choice and you see no way you can stay in the community or you know things will get worse then you maybe you should give hospital a chance. It gives you a bit of time to calm down and relax without worrying about anything else and it gives them a chance to sort out your medication if you need it changed or the dosage changed. Just be honest. They only want to help you get through this xxx

I am in the US and most likely I am going voluntarily :/

I'm sorry that things have gotten sonbad that you may have to go to hospital.
It's really not a therapeutic place, if you're in the USA, it's mostly a place to help you get out of that crisis. But from there you're sometimes on your own.

I've only been in the adolescent ward, so I don't know how things are in the adult ward, if that's where you will possibly be going. But I think they'll basically out you on medication and observe you for a while until you're no longer in crisis mode.

Have you tried everything in your community before hospitalization? Have you had an appointment with your therapist and psychiatrist? Have you attended a day program first?

What are you expecting to get from hospitalization?

You will have some groups, meet briefly with a psychiatrist each day for about 3 minutes, a social worker for like, 10 minutes, and will be put on medication. It's not a restful environment, either.

If you really feel you need to go into hospital, I'd go in, but sometimes, hospital isn't always the best option, but if you are really unsafe and need that kind of intensive 24/7 help, then I'd go in for a little while.

What do the professionals you see think? Are they agreeing you should go in, too?

Talk this over with them, and think of the pros and cons of hospitalization, and go from there.

it's best to go voluntarily rather than be detained. Hopefully you'll be able to stabilise without the serious consequences of being sectioned.

Sending love, and take care. It's best to do what you think is best for yourself if you're honest with yourself. xx

I find being in hospital gives me the chance to get away from life and to let go of the desperation I feel. I may still have the self harm/suicide thoughts but I am better able to cope with them and with life when I get out of hospital because that desperate, all consuming, need to not be alive is not there any more.

If you feel you are a danger to your self then go to the hospital.
