What did you want to be when you were little?

What did job did you want to have when you were little and what do you do now?

I wanted to be a vet, but someone told me it was a 5yr course. I think I also decided I was a bit too squeamish. Anyway, I dropped out of college, spent 4 years in retail and I'm about to do a degree in social work.

When I was really little I wanted to be a writer and a marine biologist. Then I thought about becoming a professional musician but decided that was too risky so I was going to go to school to be a history teacher...

I changed my majors to theatre performance and dance - not practical but I'm in love with performing

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an archaeologist. It was more because I liked digging holes in the garden than I liked history.

Went through phases of wanting to be a doctor, an engineer, a radiographer. Never once did I think I'd end up as an English teacher. I'm glad I did though!

I always wanted to go to art school and be an artist. Since I was a little primary school kid I only wanted to be an artist, I was always drawing, painting and went through heaps of art supplies. I guess I was lucky that I knew what I wanted to be. I achieved my dream by graduating from art school and working as a freelance artist (after doing some rubbish jobs first), doing art community work (which got quite hard because of recession and cut backs- ah the life of a poor artist) . Just now I am unable to work, but thinking about this makes me realize I can hope to eventually get back to where I was. I haven't done a community art project since December last year, but I'm still making art work at my own pace. Wow, sorry, went off on a tangent.

Oh I just remembered there was one week in primary school I wanted to be a detective. My sister burst that bubble for me by telling me I had to be a police woman first. I didn't want to start from the bottom (and then there was a minimum height which I knew I would never reach going by genes and the fact I was a tiny child), so it was back to being an artist.

I went through phases of teacher, lawyer, author, paramedic and crash scene investigator (and apparently a milklady when I was very little), but always came back to the idea of wanting to be a police officer, and have done since I was about 6.

I'm now 23 and I'd still love to be a police officer if I could. >.< But alas. Now, I am a psychology graduate and hoping to do postgrad next year and hopefully work in research, sport psychology, or something related. :)

Nurse, like my friend, Jenny. [Who did actually become a nurse.]
Vet. [I had a *thing* for that zoo vet guy, and animals.]

Apparently at one point I did want to work in a library, aha! [But I have no memory of that desire!]

It's lovely to hear everyone's childhood dreams - especially people who went on to do/close to what their dream was.

I wanted to be a pilot, but learnt you had to have 20/20 vision to do that (I don't). You also have to be good at maths. The other problem was that I was/am scared of planes and flying, putting me at a slight disadvantage.

I never dreamt of being anything when I was little, now I don't care what I do as long as its 'helping' someone, even just as a secretary with a quick phone call. Stupid as it sounds, it makes all the difference in people's lives just to know they're being 'thought of' when they're ill.

When I was REALLY little I wanted to be a vet because I liked dogs, but after that I didn't really have any specific goals. Now I am a Graphic Designer, and I'm really happy with it~
