Amitrytiline withdrawal and anxiety
Has anyone any experience of coming off amitrytiline? I have been coming off it really slowly under dr supervision but since stopping it completely things have been happening. My blood pressure which has always been completely normal has shot up and my pulse rate is 117bpm (and i think it should only be 60 -80). My heartbeat feels really jumpy and i'm having frequent shortness of breath. I've never suffered with anxiety before but i'm wondering if the amitrytiline was keeping me calm without knowing it and now i'm off it i am having anxiety problems?

It might be worth contacting your doctor. Do you think your pulse/bp are related to anxiety? As, coming of antidepressants it is fairly common to have rebound symptoms of anxiety/depression. It may be that they disappear, or it may be that your doctor needs to put you back on a low dose.
My first AD I thought it helped a bit, but it was only later when I took anti-anxiety pills (propanalol) and realised the effect was the same (but greater) that I realised it had been controlling my anxiety (and hence, making me feel better) rather than my mood. |
Thanks for replying aunty t. I didn't know that coming off antidepressants could cause anxiety. I have been fretting that it's something to do with my heart but it does feel more like anxiety. If it continues will see my dr

It's usually a temporary rebound thing, like sometimes a rebound in your depression. If it's bad, go back, but mostly it fades away. Take care.
