Things that Trigger Us

What is your opinion on movies, music and books that trigger us? Do you avoid it or listen to it or watch it?

In my opinion I would be carefull, about seeing movies that trigger you. If I think I will be triggered and end up with depressive thoughts due to a movie or a song. I avoid watching/listening to it, there are other movies that make me feel low ♥) Im doing so much better I can function 100% everyday in the real world, but I simply don't want to feel "low" so I avoid things that make me feel bad.

It really depends. If I feel that listening to something will help me to work through some of my issues, I will listen/watch/read (to) it. That said, I have to be in a good headspace to do that.

If I'm feeling unwell, I stay well away from all that.

same. if i'm already feeling unsettled, then i stay away from it. but when i'm fairly stable and able to handle it, i purposely watch/read bits of it at a time so that i get desensitized to it.

I agree it just depends on my current mood.

Much like everyone else, it depends.

Sometimes I will listen to music that I know will trigger me because I'm in a self destruct mood. This is not good! Although, I'm learning to cope much better now.

I don't try to stop triggers actively. I guess I wouldn't go on the hunt for certain tools on purpose but I also don't keep myself away from tv/real life magazines etc where they might be a mention of certain things because I believe it's important to learn to deal with these things for a full recovery.

Well, since the vast, vast majority of music, movies, tv shows, books, etc. have something that triggers me in them, I just have to deal with it or not be able to watch anything or listen to music. I just avoid the ones that are triggering the entire time.
