Panic Attacks

I am having a lot of panic attacks lately that make it very hard for me to go to sleep as they usually hit right as I'm trying to go to sleep. Anything that makes me feel like I'm too much in my body or having to do with bodily things (i.e. going to the hospital) usually sets it off. But sometimes it seems like nothing sets it off or I don't know what sets it off. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with panic attacks. I have been on Zoloft and am no longer taking it and I do not want to be on medication.

Sertraline (Zoloft) withdrawal includes panic attacks/agitation. Might be why they're happening if you stopped them too quickly. Although I don't know how long ago you stopped them.

Thanks for your reply.

I have been off of Zoloft for several months now. I had withdrawal symptoms for two weeks after going off of it. The withdrawal symptoms stopped. I was doing okay for a few months and then the panic attacks came back in force. They used to be more sporadic, but now they are happening every day, sometimes more than one a day and for long periods of time.

It might be worth speaking to someone like a doctor about them, so they can offer you that extra support. Also have you tried any relaxation techniques as these can be really helpful. Here is a simple breathing exercise that might help:

Quote:

1. Lie down on a flat surface.
2. Place one hand on your stomach, just above your navel. Place the other hand on your chest.
3. Breathe in slowly and try to make your stomach rise a little.
4. Hold your breath for a second.
5. Breathe out slowly and let your stomach go back down.

Also getting some exercise can really help with anxiety. It is also important to remember even through the feelings of anxiety are awful to deal with they can't hurt you. If you want to know any more relaxation techniques then let me know. Take care
