Olanzapine
Hi,
Is anyone taking Olanzapine for Anxiety/Anorexia/PTSD? I'm currently on 100mg of Setreline, which the Psychiatrist wants increasing to 150mg. She is writing to my GP to suggest prescribing me a small dose of Olanzapine, although the word anti-psychotic scares me as I don't have a psychotic illness. If anyone has taken it for Anxiety/PTSD/Anorexia, has it been helpful at all? |
I've heard of people taking it for anorexia,i haven't personally taken it though.
It seems to help some people though usually combined with therapy. Did your psychiatrist go into any detail as to why they think olanzapine would help? Sorry i can't offer any more advice x |
Olanzapine short-term has been said to help for the things you listed. I do have a psychotic illness, but I've noticed that when my psychiatrist last tried to decrease my Olanzapine, not only did my psychosis get worse, but so did my anxiety.
Can you define a "small dose", is that 5mg or 2.5mg? |
Like Steel Maiden, I have been diagnosed with a psychotic illness, but find tht the olanzapine really helps with my anxiety as well. I'm generally a bit of a jittery mess, but this stuff has really calmed me down.

for a lot of meds there are off-label uses too: i.e. quetiapine is also a mood stabiliser as well as an anti-psychotic, ditto for aripiprazole. Olanzapaine being used for anorexia is just an off-label use and the idea that it is an anti-psychotic shouldn't scare you; you won't get psychosis from taking the med.

atypical antipsychotic are used for treating bipolar disorder and depression, it is approved by the FDA for that.
don't worry about it, I took it for depression for a long time, it had some side effects though, I hope you don't have them, but if you do, you can talk about it to your doc!:) |
