Old Chat > New Chat?

I know the old chat had problems, but i honestly can't stand being in the new chat room, i don't know, something doesn't feel right, the fact it's another tab in my Firefox and not a nice pop up doesn't help, and it feels clunky, the old one was so simplistic.

Does anyone else agree with me? Because at the moment i litterally can't use it :/ It just doesn't feel right and is overall nothing compared to the previous :-(

Kaya 27-09-2007 08:42 AM

I'm liking the new one, although I completely agree about the pop-up thing. I think because the old chat was smaller and didn't take up the whole page, it felt a lot more personal.

*Squishes Dan* I'm not sure there's anything you can do about it except keep trying; it seems like this Chat is here to stay and if it's more reliable as a whole, then it's a good move, no?

random.swirls 27-09-2007 09:37 AM

I like the new chat because I can get on it at work and so can go on it.

Tears and Rain 27-09-2007 10:33 AM

I put old chat.
Just cos it did seem more personal and such.
But I will probably get used to it either way.

I prefer teh PMs on this chat.
And the status thing.

Lag's a nightmare though.

You can change the colour scheme; mine is now monotone, with varying shades of grey, which does make it look more simple and managable.

Change is always difficult, always different. Do you remember when we moved from RYL v.2 to RYL v.3? That was very difficult, a lot of people were displeased, and there were many teething issues. And yet, you look at it now - and it feels like there never was any change.

Give chat a chance. I understand that it's difficult, but at least try, Dan? It'd be a shame to lose you from one of the regular chatters.

The new one has snazzy features and I can get on it all the time now.

I miss the old one for simplicity, but the new is more reliable and once we get used to it I'm sure it won't seem to complicated.

I kinda liked both of them for different aspects but I did prefer the old chat a little better cos at least when ur pc was bein slow it didnt really interfere with chat but since its actually on the page it depends on ur connection speed if u get wot i mean, I dunno I might just be waffling on but thats the only thing that annoys me bout the new chat other than that I like it :)

This chat should actually be a lot faster than the old chat, especially now since I just updated some settings. There is more than I can do performance wise, but it is all about striking a balance, so let me know how that now is.

The colours are a big problem, and I intend to reset everyones settings and remove the option of changing themes and background colours. While a seemingly nice feature on the surface, the fact it comes like that is madness - with so many conflicting colour choices text colours and clarity have started to become a real issue, so cutting down these clashes and keeping it more simple will be a good idea.

I got hell from people when I brought in the old chat long ago, they all said it was all new and confusing, this will grow on you all I assure you, especially when the colours mean it is more stable and recognisable. The old chat had a lot of issues, issues that were not getting sorted by the company, and which were causing chat to be offline too much of the time. How chat looks, and the confusion of a few new features is not as important as having a chat that is reliable and online all the time.

So yeah, I am sorry we had to change chats, but we did have to. Let me know your suggestions for changes and improvements, and do please let me know about performance issues. I am looking at bringing in another version of the chat for low bandwidth users having performance issues - I'll let you know on that

I'l try getting used to it, obviously we can't go back to the old chat, but i can still reminice in the good times :-( Haha.

The Midnight Crazies 27-09-2007 04:48 PM

I hate the new chat as it really messes with my old low performance pc. So you guys won't see me in the chatroom anymore at all (not that I was there much anyway lol)

I prefer the old chat, the back ground frustrates me, but other than that i guess i will get used to it. Heck i didn't like v3 when it first arrived but that no longer stands now, so guess chat will change too!

Paperdreams. 27-09-2007 06:10 PM

I love the new chat. It took a bit of getting used to, but at least it actually works.

ickle-duckling 27-09-2007 07:18 PM

I think when the backgrounds/text colours get sorted out, I'll like new chat. At the moment it's just too much hassle because I inevitably can't read anything people are writing.

Harley 27-09-2007 08:19 PM

If you are having troubles with the performance of chat, especially with it slowing down after you being in there a long time, I suggest you upgrade your flash installation, which will help a lot.

You can do so by going here :

That should help a great deal for anyone running an older version

PMs close when the person leaves. Can we change that?

all-hope.lost-forever 28-09-2007 06:51 AM

I prefered the old one...
The colours in this new one are driving me nuts...If i set the background to navy blue and someone uses green or red text then it makes my eyes go funny...aslo there is no way to see if someone is typing or not.. I will still be using it but wont be in there for as long as i used to...I guess i will be using the forums more in the near future.

Sooty 28-09-2007 07:13 AM

If the colour scheme is going to change soon then that should be great. Anthother thing i find confusing is that our name is the same colour as our writing which confuses me to where the writing actually starts unless someone has bold writing.

I'm kinda torn between the two chats. Each of them had their ups and downs, but I definatly like the old chat more. And about taking out the backgrounds...please don't. I like the backgrounds a lot and I don't want that to change. The old chat seemed more personal, and thats why I liked it.

Kaya 28-09-2007 05:32 PM

I think what's annoying me at the moment is that some people have really dark colours, and some people have really light colours. So no matter which background colour you're using, you're always going to have some colours that you have to highlight to read. It's quite a pain.

ceiron 29-09-2007 01:02 AM

its really laggy tonight actually, im on latest flash and 20meg broadband so isnt me.
