what should we do?

I'm sorry, this is prolly gonna be a bit long....

There is this man who lives in our town. We've known him for years, but aren't like close or anything. He's not quite right. Like, he has some kind of mental retardation or something. He was apparently put on some new meds a while ago and has been acting very strangely as of late. He's been seen sitting in town (he always walks around town and sits in the park and plays basketball there and such) just rocking back and forth.
Somebody told my mom today when they went into the store she works in that he has asked her husband how much he wanted for their truck. Not thinking he was serious, he told him $2000. Well, after a while, they ended up giving the truck to their son. This man went to their house and broke down because they didn't have the truck anymore. He had saved a lot of money ($1600) and picked out a name for the truck. This lady said he broke down crying and rubbing his hands and rocking for a while.
A few different people are worried about him being on these new meds.
He is married with I think 2 kids, and they've always been fine. But I think his wife has something wrong with her too, and we don't know if she would understand if we told her about our concerns.

What do y'all think we should do? We are really worried about him, but don't know who to contact about his well-being.

That's a difficult one, because if you only see him around then it's not like you've got a proper relationship with him or anything.

Do you know how old the kids are? If they're at an age where they are able to react appropriately to their parents' needs, then it might be an idea to slip a letter round to their house or something and just express your concern.

I would say contact your local authorities for advice/names/numbers of services that could support him, but I'm nto sure how it works in the USA. Do some Googling and see what's in your local area?

Thanks... their kids are young... still in elementary school... so that's not an option. I'm not sure what the options are... the lady i mentioned said that she might talk to his wife and see if she can understand what's going on and that he needs something changed and that there is a problem. if not, she said she was going to ask around and see what she can do...
I just feel sorry for him because he doesn't understand that something is wrong. He realizes that he is acting oddly since he started this new medication, but doesn't realize that it's really a problem.

I think maybe you should all stop gossiping. If I was him, I'd want the whole town to just shut up. sorry but its true.
