Has anyone ever gone to a rehab facility?

For depression and anxiety? My dad is thinking that it's best that I do that but does it even exist? Would it even help?

I think rehab for depression and anxiety is basically hospital. Depending where you live, there may be more specialist units etc.

There are a lot of pro's and con's to going in to hospital, and it depends what else you have tried. Have you sought professional help so far?

Personally, I think hospital for depression and anxiety is a bad thing unless there are any co-morbid problems like severe self harm/drug or alcohol misuse/eating disorders/other MH factors.

It takes you away from the causes of the depression and anxiety and teaches you to cope in a trigger-free environment which is not conducive to learning to cope in the real world.

Have you received any outpatient therapy or treatment? Maybe it would be good to ask your dad if he can help you contact a therapist in your area to help with dealing with the issues you're facing and to help you manage the symptoms effectively while in your usual environment.

i went to Rogers Memorial Hospital's residencial adolescent unit, which specializes in anxiety (particularly ocd) and found it incredibly helpful. i think that residential hospitals can be very helpful if you take the time to find one that fits your needs and goals.

Yes I have done therapy but I've stopped and I've been on medication but also have stopped. Thank you for your responses. I hope for more.

can i ask why you have stopped therapy and medication?
they are usually the long term treatment options.

hospitals are usually only short term

My dad stopped paying for therapy and at one point I lost my medication and figured I didn't need it.

If you're dad thinks that you need to go somewhere for rehab, maybe he will start paying for therapy again.

do you think that you need medication?

what country are you from?

LittleAlexMarie 02-04-2012 05:55 PM

He probably will. I don't know. He wants me to kinda go away for awhile. I live in USA

wake up 02-04-2012 09:35 PM

as you live in the USA and your dad is willing to pay for it, you may be able to be admitted into a private hospital.

but i would consider your options, what is it you think hospital could give you that being in the community couldnt?

as ive said before, hospitals aren't always the nicest of places and generally they are short term (depending on your dads funds).
it may be more helpful to look at long term help available in the community if your dad would pay for it again
