risperidone depot injections
My psych wants to start giving me depot injections because I'm not very good at taking tablets and either forget to take them or take them all at the same time.
I've never had a depot injection before and I was wondering if anyone on here has, how much do they hurt? Do they make you feel any different to the tablets? Are the side effect any worse? Thanks |
heya poppet, i used to be on risperdione consta injections, it didnt really hurt me, and i didnt get any side effects apart from dry mouth, i am back on oral meds now as i got paranoid about injections but if it was a choice of taking oral meds or injections i would go for injections as you dont have to worry about taking tablets.
hope this answers your question xxxhugsxxx |
I was on Risperdal Consta (the Risperidone depot) for about a year, came off it and am now going back on it tomorrow. I don't find them painful, they sting a little but nothing too bad, and at the 25mg dose I haven't noticed any side-effects I didn't have on the oral version. In fact, apart from at that fortnightly appointment, I barely even remember I'm on it.

I'm also on Risperdal Consta (the Risperidone depot) I get it in my arm rather than my bum which isn't too painful. If you get the chance you could try it in both places to see which you prefer. I have gained a lot of weight on this med but it's probably got a lot to do with my lack of motivation to eat properly and exercise too.

I am not on Risperidone, but I am on a depot, so I may be able to help you. However in terms of pain etc, it may be different because I believe Risperidone is the only depot which can be given in your arm, whereas Clopixol (the one I am on) and other depots have to be given in your bottom.
