Queueing up for 2 days??!

The new iPad has come out, which is interesting in itself.

But why do people queue for over 24 hours, some even two days?!

Why don't they just wait for a while until the crowds dissipate and the prices get cheaper and then buy it? Or order it when it comes online?

I don't understand why someone would queue for two days, especially if it is cold in some of the places they queue up at.

Can someone enlighten me?

fanboys

Fanboys?

effervescence 16-03-2012 08:08 AM

Because they enjoy the excitement of queueing up and they want to be one of the first people to get one so they can feel happy about getting one as soon as possible and show it off to all their friends etc.

Erm ok, I still don't understand it but I suppose if they're obsessed enough they have the will to do a lot for it. Illogical of them, but I am not saying it's wrong.

The only explanation is that these people lead such vapid and inane lives that they have nothing better to do for 2 days other than to lap up the latest iNonsense product from Apple only to have to do the same thing again in 12 months when they release the next sparkly overpriced version.

I have an iPad at home which was given to me as a gift and it's the most overpriced useless waste of space I've ever come across. I used it for about a week, realised it's utterly inferior in every way, shape and form compared to a real computer and have left it in it's box ever since. Will no doubt sell it on ebay when I get round to it.

I don't get it either. Why queue in the cold for two days just so you can have it a bit earlier than everyone else?

It's because it's a buzz, the excitment can be awesome..

I once waited a few hours just for a game...was boring after a little while.

Ninja Orange 16-03-2012 03:19 PM

I don't get it either.

When the first psp came out i waited in line for the midnight launch, although that was only for a couple of hours and it was worth it to turn up at school the next day with a shiny new psp :D

Steel Maiden 16-03-2012 06:12 PM

Fair enough. I understand a couple of hours, but two days is still excessive.

crazykat 16-03-2012 06:17 PM

I don't get it either, agree two days is excessive

Steel Maiden 16-03-2012 06:31 PM

Yep :/

I used to queue up for the midnight book launches of Harry Potter, but only a few hours. The atmosphere was fun, and then in the bookshop I went to there would be tables filled with all kinds of Harry Potter sweets & stuff. I used to then stay up reading all night until I finished the book.
But I couldn't do it for days, and I wouldn't do it for an iPad or something. I just really loved reading those books and couldn't wait to find out what was next.

Steel Maiden 16-03-2012 07:33 PM

^ fair enough. I don't read fiction but I've heard the HPs are pretty good.

It is excessive, the iPad thing though.

Dying_Angel 17-03-2012 12:58 AM

I dont get it either

I don't get it. There's something about apple in general though. They have made a very good marketing strategy through the hype and exclusivity with their products that just hits certain people's brains in the right way to get them all crazed like this. There was a study done where neuroscientists found that people that got fanatic like this about apple products actually had the same regions of their brain light up on fMRI that is involved in religion when viewing apple products. Funny but at the same time enlightening. I guess for people with certain personalities it's a way to give them purpose. Also I suppose peer pressure might be involved if they have friends doing it. Or maybe boredom if they have nothing else to do? But yeah seems so pointless to me especially since you don't get anything special or anything cheaper that I know of.

Steel Maiden 17-03-2012 06:40 AM

It is quite strange how people can be led into these things so quickly.

The iPad is too much hype.

beautiful_seclusion 19-03-2012 10:43 PM

Yeah I prefer my nook color which is about a fourth of the price and if I ever root it, can do almost the same amount of stuff.

shadow-light 19-03-2012 10:54 PM

not a clue... I wouldn't even queue for an hour for something let alone over a day... I guess it's something to do with getting it first or something? but not really sure
