Lent 2012
Anyone giving up stuff for lent?
I'm thinking of giving up all drinks except water for lent... done it the last 2 years, and felt really good for it. |
I might give up giving up things for lent.
|
Hell to the no, in fact I may take up some new vices for the occasion.

I'm thinking about giving up adding salt to food.
|
Last year i gave up smoking. This year i may do it again. It was fun, as all my friends made the mistake of giving up things they actually did and hated it and i was skipping around going 'nope, dont miss smoking at all' and they got mad at me. Although i had to be careful who i said it in front of in case someone thought i actually did smoke
|
No, am not religious. Don't drink much, smoke, eat unhealthily etc. otherwise I'd consider having a go anyway :-)
|
Smoking and salt!x
|
I'm really not sure! I'm thinking alcohol as I've quit drinking for a bet for 2 months before now and it went really well and I saved a lot of money.
Either that or I'll think of something. Maybe chocolate. |
I think smoking is a good idea, it saves loads! Haha...
(not that I smoke) Giving up chocolate would save me a lot of money, but I wouldn't be able to cope. |
I gave up chocolate last year. Will have to have a think.
|
Seeing this thread has made me think about giving up something for lent but then again I don't think I actually could last for the whole 40 days or however long it is.
I will get back to you. |

I'm not a Christian but I enjoy doing lent. Last year I tried to give up alcohol, drugs and smoking. Actually succeeded apart from one night where I had a couple of pints as it was a mate's birthday.
This year I'm not sure what to give up as I don't smoke etc. any more. |
I'm giving up the use of the word 'fine' and I'm taking up attending morning prayers every day at my Uni as I fail miserably at this.
|
When is lent?
And I am going to give up chocolate I think! |
Lent is a period of time (this year 46 days) beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Easter Sunday to remember the 40days Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the Devil before he started his 3 years of ministry.
The traditional reason behind lent is to be a time where the Christian prepares them self for Easter through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving and self-denial. Christians give up something (form of fasting), and sometimes take up something. |
I think I might *try* and give up berating myself/beating myself up, and try and take on positive affirmations.
|
I want to give something up, but I have no idea what. maybe i'll give up beign mentally ill...
:P |
I'm going to give up chocolate for lent. Hardly original but it's my weakness.
