SIAD.
So, it's nearly that time of year again, self injury awareness day is only a few weeks away, and every year I say i'm going to do something to raise awareness but I never do, but this year i'm determined! I want to start thinking of ideas and stuff now so when it comes to it I know what i'm doing, so if anyone has any ideas on how to raise awareness they would be greatly appriciated!
If it was me id put up posters where you work/study (sorry, i dont knownyour age), because id not be able to do anything that drew a lot of attention to myself. If you dont mind drawing attention then theres probably a lot more you could do
I know, I'm 17 so at college, i've already spoken to my tutor about this and she says we can do something but we need to work out what, I would have had more confidence but my tutor's not actually gonna be in that day so i'm slightly freaking out about it now :/
I'm glad someone started this thread early this year. I think it was started the day before last year. :)
I am glad someone is talking about raising awareness for SIAD. Unfortunately, I don't know how to raise awareness either, but I make it a point to wear something orange every March 1.
I need to find something orange to wear too O.o I know, I was woeing about all the years of bullying i've had due to self harm and how people really don't understand it, and then I realised it was nearly SIAD and I should do something about it. Thought i'd ask for ideas now so I can talk it through with my tutors and try and do something at college...
I try to wear something orange but the weather is useually cold which means that I end up wearing an orange t-shirt over a long sleeved top. Sometimes I forget though.
Most of the time I remember. |
I'll wear something orange even though I hate the colour, how's that for dedication?

hahahaha that is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Orange.... not my color |
Im thinking about maybe mentioning it to someone at college, they have this thought of the week thing in the student bulletin and they often mention stuff like internet safety day. I dont think theyd mind putting it in at all. Just hope they dont ask too many questions
Um I would like to do something but then people would know that I sh and I am really not ready for that but if anyone thinks of a good 'anonymous' idea I would defo be up for that!!!
Well Im gonna say I have a friend instead of me.
I was kind of thinking of doing one of those awareness posts on facebook, kind of like the ones they do for cancer and other issues. I usually don't like them, but I find a lot of people actually share them I just don't know exactly what to say.

How about wear a SIA wrist band or draw the ribbon on yourself and answer what it's for when people ask... Or you could make artwork regarding SI and allow people to ask why you are doing so. This year is the first time I am starting to be open about my self injury, and the reason I opened up is because my friend was open to me about her SI. Maybe be extra loving on SIAD or just out of character.... And don't be afraid to tell people why! :) <3
Last year's thread: [here] Last year I wore an orange t-shirt and painted my nails orange with SIAD on them.
I have another idea! Make a video telling about your experience with SI and post it to YouTube so you can try to help others who have or currently are SI. I watch a lot of people's stories on YouTube to try to help myself get happier and not triggered when I'm upset :( if you don't want anyone to know who you are, you can blur the picture and alter your voice :).... This is just an idea that is not meant to offend anyone!
~Thanks, <3 |
I shall be rocking the orange look. Although i look awful in orange and if anyone asks im doing it for a friend lol.
I emailed my head of year. For a friend, obviously
