CITALOPRAM
Has anyone here ever had withdrawel side effects from Citalopram, and how did you deal with them?
|
I found citalopram generally fairly tough. Personally I didn't find it really tough to come off of, it was that kind of relief stage of not having to be on it anymore, you know? Venlafaxine on the other hand... Awful. What kind of problems are you experiencing with coming off of it, or are you debating with your doctor to come off?

I am having terrible symptoms, and they have only started since coming off citalopram...
Im getting palpitations, electric shock sensations, fuzzy head, headaches, sweating, dizziness...its horrible its really effecting me, i dunno what to do. I was on a high dose and the psych just stopped them when I was on section |
Sweetie I think you have 2 choices:
1) put up with them until they go (probably a couple of weeks) 2) Talk to your GP or someone in your care team and explain and maybe they will give you a low dose for a few weeks to take them away. |
I stopped cold turkey last year, and I had the same horrible effects as you. They do go away after a few weeks, it felt like forever though x x
|
The withdrawal symptoms can cause what you explained but they will not harm you and within a week to two week you wil feel fine again.

I dropped from 60mg to zero when I was being stupid a while back, and it was awful; I kept throwing up and getting dizzy and chest pain, and in the end I had no choice but to go back to my GP and agree to take a low dose to control the withdrawal.
Is there are particular reason they took you off it suddenly? |
YES! my withdrawls from citalopram can be bad.. i used to get so damn dizzy that i could hardly drive and the first time i went to the dr thinking i had an inner ear infection.. it was so bad i busted out crying in the dr office waiting room... that is when i found out it was a withdrawl symptom.. i have found that if i run out of that med.. and i still have some xanax they help my withdrawl symptoms stay away.
hope your withdrawls arent that bad tho i think everyojne is different on that. |
I had really bad withdrawal symptoms the first time I came off it (then I relapsed and got put back on it), the second time though I was weaned off it and that helped ease some of the symptoms. Try go and talk to your doctor about the symptoms youre experiencing! I hope they ease soon...I know how much they suck!

I was on the highest possibly dose of citalopram, I just got brought off it, cold turkey and put on Sertraline. I get tired, have really bad headaches and palputations.
