jumping back in threads

When I click on a topic on the main page I know it goes to the last place I viewed, but now when i click on a topic it goes all the way back to a few pages ago, even though I have viewed posts later on than that.
I probably have not explained myself very well at all so I apologise for that, but its really annoying me cos I keep having to read through loads of posts to find where I was whereas before I would just go straight to the last post I had viewed. Is this just me or anyone else having this problem and what can I do to resolve it.

sajhfuahuefghaeg 10-01-2012 07:48 PM

I know, it does it to me occasionally do. I don't know how to make it stop, sorry :P

squirrelspit 10-01-2012 09:30 PM

it does that to me! i thought it was just cos i was on my phone a lot of the time.

Bleeding Angel 11-01-2012 12:07 AM

does that to me as well, seems to go back pages and not my last post.

GlitterTrashDoll 11-01-2012 01:10 AM

It does it to me too.

Someone explained why it does it to me, to go to the last page you have to go into the forum and click "last page" I think, whereas if you click the thread title (and not actually go into the forum, if that makes sense) it goes back several pages.

i always click the yellow arrow. and it always worked until recently.

On main RYL welcome page - Click on FORUMS ,
Then click on QUICK LINKS , a drop down menu will appear & from this menu I usually click on either Latest posts or Subscribed threads, That'll always bring me up to date & straight to the latest post of a particular thread clicking the blue arrow next to the latest poster (unless I choose to click on a lower number page for that thread of course).

Btw, I try not to use the back button on my browser when on this forum , as the browser does'nt automatically update with new imput on the previous page i viewed including the latest posts will stay the same "as viewed" & wont register that you've already read something..., However, a model railway forum I'm also a member of will automatically update a thread page upon using the browser back button.

The issue may also depend on what sort of web browsers etc we're using ? (Google Chrome, Mozilla firefox, explorer 8, etc) & if certain updates have been applied.

Does it to me recently too! Yellow arrow is broked :( I also can't use the mark all forums read button. It hates me. Woe

are we too big for the database?

Jelly Fairy 12-01-2012 12:38 AM

Having the same problem here too - glad it's not just me!

Silver Phoenix 12-01-2012 04:07 PM

I have the same problem as well. It's somewhat annoying and has resulted in me reading less threads as I can't be bothered scrolling through pages of posts I've already read to try and find where I was.

Zurg 12-01-2012 08:24 PM

I have the opposite problem. When i click the arrow it skips past a lot of posts i haven't read yet.....

Are you clicking the yellow arrow, the one next to the thread title?

I haven't experienced either of these problems, I'd probably clear my cache and cookies and then mark all the forums as read as a starting point.

It's happening to me too, it seems to me that the first time you click the yellow arrow for a thread, it works, but after that when you click it, it brings you to the same point as the first time you clicked it.

I was having this problem on IE and switched to Firefox, works fine on there for me.

Foxtrot Oscar 21-01-2012 01:15 AM

^This.

I was having this problem in IE9 and getting really frustrated so switched to Chrome and it's fine now. I googled it and it's a well documented problem with IE and forums.

random.swirls 21-01-2012 01:41 AM

Im on safari and not having any issues!

Freedom Fighter 21-01-2012 06:20 AM

reason ∞ IE sucks

Ninja Orange 28-01-2012 10:04 PM

I use Chrome and Firefox, and have this issue on both. The yellow arrow works the first time, but the following times it just brings me back to the same place.

Zedebee 29-01-2012 02:09 PM

I have that but it'll usually take me right back to the start of the thread
