A general reminder. *please read*

the recent trend of trolling and hijacking every thread with the sane inane bullshiit is just boring now.

Please stop making it impossible for people to have any kind of
conversation on this site, and also remember, thread hijacking is an infraction worthy offense and we will be heavily enforcing this over the next few days/weeks.

You have been warned.

RYL is not 4chan, please grow up.

I approve of this message.

*guilty face*
Can I ask the exact definition of thread hijacking? I have partaken in all of the following recently, but am unsure which would be deemed unacceptable:

a) spamming the spam threads (such as ugg boots, converting files)
b) hijacking a thread that's vaguely serious (I know straight off that this is unacceptable and I have stopped that)
c) starting threads in general chat about mindless things (e.g. the ryl zoo)
d) generally talking rubbish on a thread in general, where it is known that the OP just wants to have a thread of randomness (e.g. the recent Pool thread, or the BigMike appreciation thread)
e) having a long-winded conversation about caps locks in the uni student thread

I'm not trying to be difficult here, I just want to know what I can and can't do, as I don't want to upset anyone or get points or warnings, but at the same time I know a lot of people who enjoy the silliness, and I know without clarification I will most likely stop posting in GC, which would be sad times.

squirrelspit 24-11-2011 08:34 AM

if a thread is there for the point of being pointless.. ie: threads about tits, threads about ugg boots, threads where basically no one is trying to get a point across or ask a genuine question then do what you like, but when people are genuinely trying to talk about stuff, even in general chat.. if you dont have anything nice or constructive or even vaguely relating to the point of the thread to say, just dont say anything.

tearsinheaven 24-11-2011 09:07 AM

I'd like to add my very hearty "Here, here!"

akita 24-11-2011 10:58 AM

Instructions obeyed Charghlie.

Feel_Good_inc. 24-11-2011 11:33 AM

So tempting to just write some fake spam message about ugg boots or cheap clothing.

must...resist...

well, i'll listen. of course I will. I've been enough trouble in the past.

Pi.R^2 24-11-2011 11:54 AM

Thank you for the clarification :)

Thank you for this! this i can actually understand.

MunchBox 24-11-2011 01:27 PM

Understood.

FabulousMike 24-11-2011 01:28 PM

Well i gave this A LOT of thought last night (sad to say i actually lost sleep over it) and i will be cutting down or even stopping my spamming/hijacking on most if not all the treads, well i'm going to try this anyways.

Edit-Unless it's my own thread then i'm trolling the hell out of that.

I understand the thread but do we have to be warned in such a derogatory tone? I think the point would have been made perfectly without snide comments like being told to grow up and other remarks.

We've all got issues and mental health issues here that makes us vulnerable and a lot of people that are just trying to distract themselves and may not realise what effect it's having on others. I think for a first warning maybe just asking for it to be toned down rather than feeling like we're being told off by a headmistress.

I'll probably get warned for this but I need to say it.

Due to the fact people tend not to listen the first time if they think they will continue to get away with it... then probably was needed. Not knowing is not an excuse for being a douche (not actually referring to you here at all btw, just in general)

In my defense, I am trying to grow up, I want to be a couple of inches taller :P

squirrelspit 24-11-2011 02:03 PM

Whwn you join RYL, you click to say you have read and understand the rules. Not hijacking threads is one of the rules.

Any kind of warning at all shouldnt have been needed.

Cacoethes 24-11-2011 02:09 PM

just want to apologize, as i have been doing this recently too.

i use humour to cope with difficult things, more so recently.
but i know i should not do this on other people's threads. just get a little carried away.
x

I don't want to get into a debate I just think you're being harsh and quite rude but what do I know?

Of course it's needed and don't go be calling a moderator rude, you'll get points from her.
