'Little Talk'...
I dont know exactly where this would go but I just have a question for those who dont mind answering.... Does it bother or bug or annoy anyone of you guys when people talk 'little' sometimes? Do you think it is considered foreign talk or text talk?
The way I see it... people who talk little are tryin to be little so when the text is read, it sounds like the person is trying to speak like a younger child. For example... i jus had lil bit but probly gon has more later... I talk little. It is because that is how I feel when I do. I regress when having a hard time to help cope. If you do this or know anyone who does as well... do you know why? I am just curious :) |
I for one dont mind anyone talking little when they need to. A few people I know talk like this and I know it helps them when they are not doing so well. You see it a lot in the "safe room" too.
I say whatever helps you get through your rough patch then do it. These little talk is not a foreign language or text so they should not be banned. If per say they are then I will leave this site! |
there was a thread for this in a&b a couple of years ago.
butterfly's play park or something, it was so people could just be little again, and the majority of posts contained 'little talk'. im not sure what happened to that thread. |
For me personally 'little talk' is very hard to understand and thus I tend to not engage or read posts when they are written in this fashion. Now whilst I understand that people often regress in 'age' as a method of coping and there are no problems with this, the idea of typing in such a way makes no sense to me. The lack of sentance structure, spelling and grammar means it is actually as foreign as text talk.
Also when I see some of these posts on lfv or around the boards I do actually wonder if people think children talk like this, I've never met one yet whose 3 and can type! Or who can type in such a way as to be vaguely understood but lacks all ability to spell etc (we all make typos spell words wrongly sometimes but every when it is every single word it is just annoying). So in answer to your question, yes I personally find it annoying and as foreign as any other language than English. That being said each to their own and if people want to type in such a way that is up to them. If said post is in an advice forumn it may mean they get fewer or less helpful (due to difficulties in understanding) replies to their posts, as people may presume they are unable to follow 'adult level' advice. |
I find little talk irritating both in real life (like that annoying "language" parents talk to babies in) and online. But if it helps people I won't tell them to stop, I just won't get involved.

I think in a thread like 'The safe room' it is ok, but anywhere else, like in PM's/general threads it's a bit disresepectful... because some people (myself included) can find it difficult to understand.

I should probably point out that Libby is (i believe) touching upon an issue that has been coming up in chat rather than in the forums.. so people dont overly have a choice not to read it.

I've often wondered how alters who are so young are able to communicate online. But I don't have DID nor do I have any real detailed knowledge of it. I find myself being put off by that type of talk, in the same way I'm not fond of text speak because I prefer to use words in their entirety.
|
I don't judge people for it. Each to their own. It just makes me cringe a bit, but then I'm not good with the whole 'inner child' thing.

my little sister has been sending me texts and facebook messages since she was about 5 years old. sometimes without my mum knowing. really dont know how.
but as mentioned above, it was (very badly!) misspelt text, not like 'little talk'. |

Due to some childhood experiences I had I act a little immature sometimes but it's something I'm aware of and usually it's not something anyone else knows of or is exposed to. |

I can't claim to understand what goes on in people's heads, but sometimes I am suspicious that people 'put it on', and get a bit narky. Sometimes I feel somewhat child-like and want to write stuff that's not really grammatically correct, but I put in the effort to write properly or else go write in my blog instead. |

i just tried to find the butterfly playground and i cant find it anywhere i did a search to find i got other threads come up with butterfly and little and playground but no thread with that name.
We could make another one for those who little talk alters or those who feel younger than they are. |
I basically agree with Lillie.

maybe it was deleted/closed for some reason.
i was away for a couple of years so im not sure. maybe it was found to be not so helpful in the end? |
