sammi 12-09-2011 06:29 PM

im not quite sure tbh.
He didnt really explain it to me very well

hmm, i havent seen anything when i googled i suspect its BPD under a different name but i think really the only way your going to know for sure is to discuss it with him.

Ask him for some more information about your Dx as you didn't fully understand before.

Sorry can't be more help x

You should ask your psychiatrist for some information about it. Like ferretmonster, I'm not quite sure if the psychiastric used another name for something like BPD. There's a similarly named personality disorder that is being considered for addition to DSM 5 - Negative Emotionality/Affectivity Disorder. I don't know anything about that disorder, I just remember the name. To sum up my post: I have no idea! Though it's fairly likely he was referring to BPD, I can't tell you for sure. Ask!

I have been diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder - borderline type, and from talking to mental health professionals I think it's that the more American term of borderline personality disorder is due to the description in the American; Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is more widely known, other countries call it slightly different things.

Whereas we generally go by the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems description (I think this is used by the World Health Organisation)of emotionally unstable personality disorder. Some believe this lessens the possible stigma of borderline personality disorder. I think it's just American terminology being slightly different to European or other parts of the world (not sure on other descriptions)

But that's just my experiences/research/opinion so it may not be totally correct.
