Hey guys, well my moods have been all over the place, ill be extreemly hyper and happy for a couple days, then ill want to die, then everything everyone does just pisses me off. Anyways, i started self harming ect ect and ive decided that i going to go see a doctor, but because im only 15 and i dont really go to the doctors that much, i dont know where to go. I dont know where theres a doctor or how to make an appointment or how much it will cost ect. I live in sydney, australia if that makes a difference, does anyone have any advice for me? Hi hon, I'm in england, so cant advise you about costs or the process of seeing a doctor where you are, I just wanted to say that I think you are doing the right thing reaching out to a professional and asking for help. tc xx

Hey Darlin,

Good for you for making the decision to seek some medical support for what you are currently experiencing.

I guess the first thing that comes to mind is - is there a way that you can let your parents know was is going on for you? I know that is probably a scary scary thought, and probably doesn't even think like an option, but getting some support from the people in your life is important.

In terms of accessing a doctor there two options - do you have your medicare card? You can make an appointment with any doctor and then have to pay the difference....there is potential given your age that your parents (i believe) will see that you have accessed a doctor.

Secondly you can make an appointment at any clinic and see the doctor and tell them that you don't have a medicare card and you will have to pay at the appointment depending on the surgery and the day you go, I advise to not go on the weekends, the prices can vary between 50 - 75 dollars. Most GPs will have a chat with you and determine what is happening for you and make a choice about referral....given your age though I would imagine they would want your parents involved.

Altenratively, have you had a chat with the counsellor or guidance officer at school? they may be able to connect you with some services in your area.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, I live in Australia but am not a resident, just a student so I don't know a lot about the medicare system.

take care of yourself and write if you need too.
