Do they check for sharps on the greyhound buses?
I guess this question is pretty self explanitory. I'm going to be taking a greyhound bus to visit my grandprents, it'll probably be a pretty long ride. Anyways I don't feel comfortable leaving my tools behind since I carry them with me everywhere. I'm worried that they'll have a metal detector and find my tools and confiscate them, I know that would happen in an airport but would they do it at the bus station too? It would be ridiculously difficult to buy any tools while I'm visiting so I'd prefer to bring the ones I already have. If they were to find my tools with a bag x-ray or metal detector would I be in trouble or would they simply confiscate them?
I know people are going to suggest not bringing them at all but I don't think I can do that right now. I haven't been doing very well lately so even if I don't plan on using them I feel like I at least need to have them with me. Ah, I finally found the section on their website. I totally it missed before, anyways it says I can't bring them even in the checked luggage thats stored away from the passengers. So I guess I'm screwed unless I think of something terribly clever...what'll I do if I end up really needing them and they aren't there? |
I know the obvious answer is if you want to SI then you should reach out to someone, but if you're uncomfortable with that, especially with your grandparents, you could try some substitute that will still give you a distracting sensation. For example, you could maybe keep a rubber band with you and use that as a milder form; it's not illegal to take on a bus, it doesn't cause tissue damage, and it can give a little sting. Sometimes, I just go to the bathroom and let ice cold water run on my wrist; it does no damage, and it's kinda soothing (to me anyway). Another thing you can do is eat something spicy like wasabi cashews or hot fries; this way, you get a sensation that is distracting, not dangerous, and completely guilt free because no one will think you're weird for bringing a snack. Ultimately, I hope you won't have to do any of these things, and that you have a wonderful trip. I hope this helps!

I don't know where in Canada you are but from my experience at small stations and at the large one in Vancouver all they did was open my bag for a second and look inside and asked if that was in fact a lap-top in my bag. They didn't do more with my checked luggage than throw it in the bus. I think you'd be fine packing them with your checked luggage-I doubt they'll pay much attention.
Trips can be stressful enough as it is without having to deal with forcing yourself into a withdrawal like phase. This is just me helping you with your options. I think ScarletButterfly covered the other options quite well so I won't bother with that. Whatever option you choose I hope you stay safe. |
I think I'll try the elastic band idea and listening to my music loud for most of the trip. I can't really get support from my grandparents because I haven't seen them for 4 years so they don't know I self harm. I don't forsee the actual visit being stressful at all, mostly just the bus ride there and back. Hopefully, It"ll be fine with all of the distractions I'm bringing (I'm going to borrow my friends old psp) and the ideas you've mentioned.
