Ziprasidone/Zeldox

I am starting on ziprasidone for schizophrenia tonight and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. I did a search here on RYL but didn't really find anything at all.
Thanks,
Rara

I very briefly tried it and it made me pretty tired. Other than that though no side effects that I noticed.

Sorry I can't say much more about it, like I said I wasn't on it very long

Thanks for the feedback.

I've got six pages of this textbook about ziprasidone. What do you want to know the most? It's not in my BNF as ziprasidone is not marketed in the UK.

Mostly I'm after common side effects, time it takes to work....I'm not really sure what I'm after, whatever you see as important. Thanks so much Oly.

I have never heard of it.I hope it helps you

rara avis 30-07-2011 02:39 AM

Thanks anyway reallifetime.

You are welcome ,I hope everything is ok in hospital .It can be tough being inside.

rara avis 30-07-2011 06:22 AM

It is hard, I am having a lot of trouble with motivation/apathy so I find myself doing nothing for long periods or freaking out a little (like now) about the Spies and Spy creatures.
Thanks for the reply reallife

I quote the book (not word for word, but I'm just taking bits out that seem relevant):

Quote:

Notable side-effects:
Dizziness, extra-pyramidal symptoms, sedation, dystonia (only at high doses), nausea, dry mouth, asthenia, skin rash, orthostatic hypotension

And the scales on the page:
Weight gain: "unusual"
Sedation: "not unusual"

Maximum dose is apparently 100mg twice daily (ie 200mg/day)

Low doses can give activating effects in some.

Half-life: 6.6 hours

You may need twice-daiy dosing.
It is sometimes used for "some cases of pychosis refractory to treatment with other antipsychotics and/or those concenrned about gaining weight."

Thanks Oly, I thought I'd already replied and thanked you. My apologies.

Steel Maiden 30-07-2011 08:29 PM

It's ok; you're welcome.

My dosage is now 40mg in the morning and 40mg nocte. The only side effect I have noticed is slight blurred vision when looking at a screen or paper for a while, which I hadnt experienced before.

roiben 02-08-2011 01:06 PM

Rara, blurred vision is common with meds that have a sedating effect and is caused by the sedation - so it should clear with time.

Steel Maiden 02-08-2011 01:36 PM

I agree with Roiben, I had that when I was sedated on meds. Keep us updated on if the new medication helps.

rara avis 03-08-2011 05:40 AM

Will do. Thanks guys.
